Gift Opinion. Older watch?
Hey Guys,
Can I get your opinions. Looking to get my wife a watch for Christmas. I know how most of you feel about custom bezels, altered dial, etc. BUT, she's young and I think it would look good on her. Obviously, the watches decrease value with mods like this one has, but the price I would buy it for, would compensate for that. That being said, the serial number makes it seem like it's from the 60's. All of my Rolex's are all new, so I am a little unfamiliar with older Rolex's. Do you think a watch from the 60's would last several years without problems? What are your thoughts on this watch, is anything concerning, other than what I noted above? The seller disclosed the crystal, bezel and hour markers are aftermarket, but claim everything else is original. In either case, I'd get it authenticated after delivery. I'd rather get her an unmodified 26 mm YM, but I know she'd rather this. Should I buy what I want her to have (unmodified YM) or buy her this, knowing that she'd probably like it more. Thanks guys! http://www.ebay.com/itm/181030056338...84.m1423.l2649 |

My wife would not care if I bought her a used/modded Rolex. My ex-girlfriend on the other hand would be offended. She was expensive and had to go. It comes down to you know your wife and the situation best. You are the only one that can answer that. Let us know what you ultimately do! |

Thanks for the input guys! Good or bad, any other opinions are welcome!
Can someone tell me though if a Rolex from the 60's would last many years? I don't know what the shelf life is typically like as mine are all newer. |

Yes it will last if serviced it's not a problem. Maybe a compromise is best datejust because its cheaper with original diamond dial. You can add an aftermarket bezel easy enough now or later and when you want to sell it, remove the bezel and back to original. I think you can get a sapphire crystal model also 69000 series 90,s in your price range with quickset date. Also.
