Hi fellow collectors

I have watch this Forums for a while, got an beat up Rolex from family long time ago..

Am try to decide the old GMT II vs new ceramic GMT II...
any input would be greatly appreciated..

Hey johan,

I'm with you on the GMT, a GREAT watch!!

Each in it's own way brings a lot to the table and it really depends on the "look" and features you want.

The 16710 is closer to the look and feel of the classic GMTs of old and as such is a bit lighter and smaller. It has the advantage of changing the "look" by changing the bezel inserts, and also (in my view" is a bit more versatile with it's 120 click ratching bezel. It does use the hollow centerlink bracelet and older clasp while the new 116710 uses a polished solid link bracelet and has an "upgraded" clasp.

Compare the smaller marker dial and twinlock crown of the 16710 to the maxi dial, triplock of the newer version and see which you prefer.

The older GMT uses a 3185 movement while it's newer brother uses an improved 3186. I have found the 116710 to be the most accurate and consistent out of the box Rolex I've ever had, but your mileage may vary.
Some like the smaller case, some the larger--I like em both! LOL!

Due to the size differences, I will go for the 16710, such as Z series...

Any comments on the color of bezel? pepsi, coke, all black... as I understand that the replacement bezel is not easily obtainable in U.S. nor Canada.

Can Z series all fitted any of those three choices back and forth???

i just got my new ceramic today and let me tell you! Ten times nicer than my regular GMTII!

Personally, I'd go for the SS GMT IIc!

Actually, I am picking that beauty up next week!

All are correct for the 16710. It's really personal preference. Certainly a Z will accept all three. Just make sure you get inserts for a GMT II. One for a GMT-MASTER won't fit due to a difference in the ID and OD.
