Acquiring an AP
Hey guys,
I've been lurking around for some time and currently set my mind to finaly hit the buck with either the nautilus 5980 black dial or the ap legacy I am open to hear your thoughts on these two watches specially in terms of value retaining. Bear in mind i am an owner of an e serial ROO Thank u in advance |

I don't think any brand outside of Rolex retains value like Patek. AP does ok, but Patek and Rolex are on another level when it comes to value retention.

If you have a big wrist ill go with AP. if smaller then Patek. Both are superb watches.

If you're worried about value retention, buy a used version of whatever you like most.

I love AP, but of your 2 options I'd go 5980.

Based on size, I'd pick 5980.

---- Guys have u got any idea whether or not the legacy wears like the o'neal? I've tried that on and i didnt like it. Felt so bulky, i ask because i see they share similar buckles and case a bit |

In terms of retaining value I'd say Patek... Based on looks alone.... either one :-)

Generally AP ROO's don't hold its initial value well with the exception of very few limited edition pieces. AP Legacy, limited to 1500 pieces worldwide should hold its value well compared to "regular" ROO models.
However I would still get the 5980 |

The patek keep going up in price no matter what model where the ap's drop and stay there.. I had a customer that had a pp On and he said he bought 4 from 1990-2000 and everyone went up in value from what he paid at least 33% on the pre-owned side.

Of these 2 choices, I would pick 5980 (with a grey anthracite dial). However, your 7.5" wrist can definitely take on the Legacy well despite its sheer size.

The next watch I want is a 26300 which has the retail price of 22k and I am finding new ones all over for 15k or under for new and a aquanaut which has the same msrp is impossible to find for under 15k even a pre-owned one.. I have a ap that cost 13k new in 2003 and bought it for 6500.. In 2003 a aquanaut was prob around 13k also and you will NEVER find one for under 7k

wow! Ahmad, right? it's Ali .. what a small e-world! we need to meet asap
first: what is the ROO in your rotation? as for your dilemma: 5980 is a very, very special watch imho it is the kind of watch i would treat myself to to mark a very, very special occasion i actually looked at PPs when my daughter was born (June 2011) but went with the GPC i think the 5980 and 5726 both can work as "daily" watches and can go with almost everything .. dressed up or down, and at the end of the day, running in our circles you and i, it will be a VERY personal watch since 1% of people will know what it is the Legacy is very large to state the obvious, but it also will be worn totally different and if you are anything like me with your watches, it will put you in a different mood and mode my vote in this particular case is PP |
