Decent reputable seller selling this red sub?
Does anyone know Matthew Bain Inc. based in Miami Beach, Florida (ebay nick wirelug)?
Opinions on him and this this red sub he is selling? http://www.ebay.ch/itm/121050672286?...#ht_993wt_1111 It looks good to me at first sight, although pictures are not too big. Thanks. |

I live on South Beach if I can be of any assistance! :) I mean I can take pictures of his store or things like that! Look at the watch physically!

For a "world renowned" watch collector, dealer and authority on fine vintage and modern watches he sure gets some details wrong.
This is the cleanest 40 year old watch I've yet seen. The cyclops seems to unevenly magnify the date though.

It looks new! How about that bezel insert - not a scratch or mark anyway, just some fade. Wow! Maybe the case was reworked with some laser welding. I'd examine it in person before dropping my cash on it.
Also, is it just me, the auction is on a German ebay site?

The clean look is also raising questions and that the seller does indeed get a few things wrong. I just have no specific indications based on the pictures that it indeed is a fake. That is the reason why I asked whether anybody knows this guy.
If no one knows him as a reputable seller, I would not even think about bidding. Springer: Being in Switzerland I watch the Swiss ebay site where when you click worldwide you also get the American ebay site offers. |

Seriously folks, this is not a fake case. It looks clean because its been given a polish. No big deal. If you compare to an unpolished example you'll see the crown guards and lugs are thinner in this one. Looks ok to me, certainly not fake, just rather polished.

I've done some deals w wirelug.
He is upstanding and pushes a lot of watches. That said, he is not a vintage expert so you Must do your own research. |

Come guys, Matthew is well known in the watch collecting community, and works closely with other collectors like Andrew Shear and Eric Ku. His website is http://www.matthewbaininc.com/ You can contact him directly through that site and he will email or call you back, provide more photos.
It is obviously a clean-looking red Sub but is has clearly been polished parts may have been changed or cobbled together. Who knows? |

$5100 for a Red Sub - where's the catch?! I've heard of the seller, of course. The plexi looks wrong to me - too shallow in profile, and something bugs me about the crown, especially looking at it in the shot of the movement. Maybe it all checks out, but do your homework.
