OMG I might have just made a huge mistake!!!

This watch was for sale on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Rolex-G...EOIBSA:AU:3160

In a word "help!"

The condition description says: Pre-owned: An item that has been used or worn previously. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

I looked and couldn't find any description of any imperfections so I thought it was 100% top notch condition.

Then looking a little at the photos I have serious questions about:
(a) possible damage to the bezel insert;
(b) possible stretch to the bracelet; and
(c) possible damage to the caseback.

Man, I'm really worried........any help please?????

They say they want 100% customer satisfaction and listed a number to call to settle issues before you would leave feedback. If the only way you can be 100% satisfied is to reverse the transaction, seems like they should do it according to their own published promise.

I wouldn't pay until you're satisfied the description was accurate. I'd rather have check in the negative block of eBay than a misrepresented watch.

Man, why don't sellers say what problems exist on a watch, I'm screwed now

Certainly looks as if the case has significant dents near the crown in the photo from behind. The bezel insert looks scratched. I can't really see the band. I would ring the seller to discuss it, if its not acceptable to you, you can send a request to cancel the transaction it's an option on the far right drop down tab on eBay click resolve a problem first, the next page will have send a request to cancel as an option, all the best. If he agrees to cancel no feedback can be left on Australian eBay anyway by either party.

In looking at an old dealer catalog the bracelet should be Stainless Steel/14K. This one says SS/18K.
Definitely not the correct 62523 Jubilee.
Or that the clasp was replaced.

Bands from 1980's are 18k not 14K. The band is correct. Also, it appears to be in decent condition with minimal stretch based on the photos.

I feel ya, sometimes we overlook imperfections, trusting the sellers description, you should contact the seller, I'm sure they will cancel, let them know your concerns, just don't pay if he refuses to cancel, worst thing a non paying strike against you, doesn't mean crap unless you do quite a few.

What exactly is the problem Steve?

You don't like it, just cancel the deal.

A picture is worth a thousand words ... and you made an offer the seller accepted .
Best would be to contact the seller and as you haven't paid yet the seller will most likely prefer to cancel the deal then having that watch blocked . Since sellers can no longer leave negative feedback , you have very little to worry . Except end up on the sellers blacklist .

Steve, they have pretty good feedback (with a few dings), which in reading their description they are probably somewhat worried about getting negative feedback. I would give them a call and tell them you want to cancel the transaction. They can not leave negative feedback as a seller.

...hmmm...

Steve...

...the photos speak for themselves.

...I agree w/springer that the band looks good and is correct.

...as far as the case back goes, there are a couple dings that really are of NO consequence. The die thread grooves look okay to ME.

...the insert obviously has some chipping-inserts for these rootbeers are readily available. (I realize that you most likely want the aged look, but the new ones are still available thru an AD (I ordered one for my 16753).

...o/all, pretty nice watch..

I was looking at a 1982 & 1984 Price List where it says SS/14K 62523 with End Links #450 for model R167533.
The 1986 Price List says SS/18K 62523 with same #450 links.
Somewhere along those years the bracelets must have been upgraded from 14K to 18K.

My Master Catalog only indicates 18K for the solid gold bands/heads so I can't address what your catalog reads.

My 72XXXXX GMT, circa 1981, is 18K and stainless steel. While there was a time frame when both 14K and 18K were available, the 18K/SS bands were available before 1986 on the GMT's.

These are from dealer catalogs.
First Picture 1982 Front Page of Price List
Second Picture 1982 Price List showing SS/14K
Third Picture 1982 Price List showing SS/14K
Fourth Picture 1983 dealer catalog showing 16753 SS/14K
Fifth Picture 1983 dealer catalog 16753 bracelet SS/14K
Sixth Picture 1984 Front Page of Price List
Seventh Picture Price List 1984
Eight Picture Price List 1984

That would probably mean last of SS/14K until 1983.
And from 1984 it will be SS/18K.

Above all are from the Rolex dealer catalogs.
Sure would be nice if there are members with said GMT 16753 with picture of paperwork from these period.

Thanks for the photos IMONO. 18K/SS was available before 1986 based on serial numbers. My band is dated "I" which is 1983/84 based on the reference material I have at my disposal. The watch serial number is 72XXXXX - circa 1981. Actually, based on your catalogs, almost all of the 16750's would have to be 14K bands, which we know is not correct. On the contrary, I don't recall seeing any in 14K/SS before, but they are surely out there. Most Jubilees from the 1980's that I have seen are 18k/SS.

Also, I find it interesting that the catalogs list the same band number (B62523007) for 14K/SS and 18K/SS Jubilee bands - depending on which master catalog you look at.

Thanks again for the time in posting the pics.

The reason I became a semi expert is because I saw an identical mid 80's GMT 16753 with a nipple dial with a 62523H14 Bracelet. The store owner said it is SS/18K Bracelet.
And right there it was on the clasp 62523H14.
Only after I told the owner did he apologized and said I was right. It would have saved him trouble had someone bought it thinking it is SS/18K and returning it later.

SPRINGER - that said GMT I saw at a jewelry store has a BROWN Nipple Dial and an all BROWN Bezel.
Bracelet is the 16753 SS/14K.
Is the all BROWN Bezel correct for this 2 Tone Root Beer GMT?

Here's my question, why is the owner of this forum, who is supposed to know better pulling the trigger prematurely and then crying to the forum about it. Dude, you should know better than to do this and if you did then suck it up; next time ask before you buy.

Come-on guys and gals - Steve is just doing his annual assessment of all the TRF posts to see if all is well (NO PROBLEMS WITH WATCHOUT!!!) according to reactions he receives about his posts!!

From what I read, Steve has not plunked down any cash and is looking for suggestions on how to back out of the deal gracefully because of damaged goods. I believe his closer inspection of the pictures revealed what the seller did not disclose.

You have a point, which I think most members would agree with, but you have all the tact of a thermonuclear weapon.

Never known for my tact; a spade's a spade, anyone that buys a watch from eBay and then realizes he made a mistake either didn't read the description or look at the photos or is having buyers remorse
