Why can't I sell my submariners...

There is a national watch show in my area next week. So I gathered up my four submariners to see which one to sell or trade, as there will be lots of nice watches at this show, and I am always tempted to obtain one...

The Sub that has been spending the most time in the bank vault, a 1984 Submariner 16800 (non-matte dial) is now on a leather strap and on my wrist--- just with the other three submariners in my collection I cannot imagine selling or trading this watch.

To add to my indecision and general confusion, my friend offered to buy back the Tudor Submariner 7928 for three times what I paid for it last year--- yiiiikkees.

I think the only reasonable solution here is:

-put all of the watches back in the valut.
-attend the show with no money in hand, learn more about different watch brands, prices, trends, etc..., then buy another when my watch fund is back up to power mode...

Here is the the 1984 Submariner that pushed me over the edge to reality, which is, "never sell a submariner, unless you need really need the money"...

I would never sell my Subs. I would have regret if I did.

Having many, many Roli's, I have given some to daugther and SIL and traded in one a month ago. I would sell/trade them in a minute.......as long as I am getting the same or similar watch in a larger size or color.

The funny thing is that I have no attachment to material
Things, unless there is real sentimental value. I do keep
Finding new watches to buy and don't like owning more than
A handful at a time. Unlike yourself I'm an avid seller.
Maybe you should try to sell something else you own
To see how it feels. Sometimes it's nice knowing the
Next owner will enjoy your watch/car/item as much as
You did.

I appreciate the feedback. Recently I did sell a few guitars, all of my older less valuable watches, and a 1984 Porsche- all for the purpose of obtaining Rolex Submariners to wear and hold for future gifts or investment returns...

I agree that I need to consider unloading one of them, perhaps 2013 is the year I figure out how to do just that....

What's the value of a 1974 Sub model 1680. All original in good condition. No box or paper though. I'm considering selling it to obtain an explorer II

I think that you can't sell one because , well ..... what would you get ? I mean you have a Rolex Submariner . It doesn't get better than that !!

If you're really attached to your subs you should consider trading one, but only to a reputable dealer. I was also very attached to mine (same as yours but with a stainless steel bracelet) but I was interested in getting a new one-eventually decided on the two tone blue dial sub. I considered selling my black one but I wasn't in need of the money so I thought a trade would be better (in the end you get more for your money anyway). I had a great experience with the jewelry store I went to. Ended up trading in my sub for my new one and got a good deal. I agree with Lgear080, because the store I sold my watch to is one I go to frequently. When I came back to drop off another one of my watches to be serviced the watch I had sold to them had been sold to someone else. So it goes to show that sometimes parting with your watch is best for both sides-I'm happy with my new watch and some other guy is happy with his new watch/my old one. Good luck! I would never ever sell my sub unless I was flat broke & I could not source cash from anywhere else.
