Advice on buying 1675 GMT, good or bad deal?
Guys, a deal has come up from a private seller to buy a GMT 1675 18K/SS for $3500. He originally wanted $5000 some months back. No box, papers or any other goodies. Recently serviced. He says its about a mid 80's model.
Now, I dont know much about these and its not one of my favourites, but Id be interested in buying it to sell on and make a few bucks. Someone who's hot on pricing would know this Im sure, I only really know rough prices on stuff from the last decade or so. Prices on the Bay are all over the place, same as on Chrono24, so not sure whether to pull the trigger on this one or not!? The pics are horrible, really sorry!!! Its an old fellow that sent them to me through his Whatsapp, doesn't have a computer can you believe! He only lives 50 miles down the road, so its not a problem for me to check it out if you think it might be worth it. Any advice on what you think this would retail for and if its worth bying would be really appreciated. P.S. Shouldnt the bezel insert numbers on these be gold? they seem to be white/silver? Thanks to all! |

Impossible to say anything based on those pics.
But yes, the bezel should have gold colored digits, and the bracelet seems very stretched. A new TT jubilee will set you back more than the watch is worth! But if you live close, check it out, and go by a Rolex dealer to have it verified. As it's impossible to say if it's even real based on those pics.

Guys, thanks for the feedback... I know the pics are terrible, its more about is it the right bezel insert for the watch (some say it should have gold numerals) and what is this watch really worth providing it all checked out OK when I see it? The guy has no problem taking it to the local AD.

It is difficult to help you based on what you are providing.
You need better pictures and better information. 1675s were not available in the 80's. |

The bezel is a small problem. Much else to worry about.

Some good points there, I do recall reading in "The Rolex Report" book that it was very early 80's when Rolex changed over to 5 digit model numbers, so it MUST be older, which I guess could be a good or a bad thing. Totally overlooked that fact, thanks TimeToGo!
Think what I'll do based on everyone's advice so far is this: Take a ride down to the city on my motorbike to see the watch, whip the back and bracelet off and take plenty of good high-res pics of the watch, all stamps/numbers and report back here. Then if the majority agree its good to go I can always whizz back down and pick it up the next day. Extra trip is a small sacrifice in comparison the risk! |

If the seller is OK with that, then do it. You might get a good ride too.

Hard to tell from pics - but crown guards look off.
