The GV Milgauss Investment

I need some advice.

I'm thinking about getting the new GV Milgauss and I was wondering what the value could be in say 4 years? I'm curious because I've fallen in love with this beautiful baby but I don't want to flip it but I would like to re-invest it later on.

So is the GV a sound investment or should I just buy the non-anniversary and be happy?

Seems like a very hit or miss investment, and you'd probably have to wait more than 4 years to see any real increase (if any).

I would say that the GV is the most sought after version of the Milgauss. Does that mean that it'll have more value in four years than the others? Probably. How much more? No one can know.

As Stewie said, I'd go with the one that tickles my fancy and "re-invest" when necessary knowing I'd enjoyed the watch to the fullest.

Yeah a CD is a good idea, I just thought that if the prospects are good I'd consider this as a little side venture just for fun. Nothing serious. I guess i'll skip the GV and go for something I don't have to wait a year for.

Well watches should not be bought as a investment IMHO and any modern day Rolex, will never be in the same league or command prices like its vintage counterpart.Like say the ref 116400, ref 1019, ref 6541 Milgauss. Or say models like the 6263/5 Daytona or earlier range etc..

well, if it just came out and it has a 2 year waiting list from now and some AD's are not taking anymore names for the GV then u can figure =)

but do wear the watch, it is one amazing watch

I agree that watches should not be bought as an investment, even though Rolex is an expensive brand I see Rolex like a car. For the most part a Rolex watch is a decreasing asset, a luxury consumable good which in 30 years most people may not be able to even find parts for.

You have to wait so long (years in my view) that the money spent on a Rolex would do far better in other money making assets. Today Rolex makes too many watches for any style to be considered limited or rare. As my friend the Rolex AD says "Rolex is in the money making business, they are there to make large sums of currency from all nations on this earth." Rolex will make millions of GV Oyster Milgauss just like the LV Sub.

well, i agree in part with Padi and Rich: because the new Milgauss is in production and likely to remain so for many years, it will not be anything like the original Milgauss which now commands a princely sum. It depends on HOW you buy that Rolex: if at an AD at MSRP, you will experience some depreciaion, in general. On the other hand, many watches you buy with big price tags lose 50 percent or more of their value after even one year, and MORE thereafter. Collector/vintage watches are different because they're in a 'niche' and very small market(but highly profitable market for dealers). Rolex on the other hand...well, if you bought a day/date president 10 years ago, let's say 5 or 6 years old at the time of purchase you likely paid $10K for it(on the grey market) and today, that watch will bring at least $7500-$10,000...so not bad in holding value, but no appreciation either. If you take care of the green glass Milgauss, I think you'll have many years of enjoyment, and when you go to sell you will find it will hold its value very well, but NOT if you buy at current prices of $2-$4 thousand over MSRP, in order to skip over the waiting lists at various AD's who have them in stock. On the other hand, Google was selling around$400 a share a few years ago..it's over $700 at present...now there's a way to make money, and if you bought a whole bunch of that stock, you can buy lots and lots of Rolex watches....same with gold which was selling at $600 a troy oz. and now is over $800. I think that is what some others here are saying, too. Make your money elsewhere, and enjoy your watch, but don't delude yourself into thinking you will 'hit the jackpot' with that Green Glass Rolex, which I would like to have too! Very true. That said, I was reading through my copy of Vintage Sports Rolex models, and at the end of the book is a list of vintage ROlexes sold at various auction houses. My oh my the Milgauss did well, in the triple US dollar digits as I recall for one in excellent shape with all the original hang tags, manuals, etc.

The Subs, Sea Dwellers and Exps did not to my recollection do anywhere near as well as the Milgausses (plural of Milgauss??)

But I agree with others who say buy it for your own satisfaction. By the time its worth that kind of money--and it may never be--you'll be eating strained prunes with the other seniors and reading the morning paper in your rocking chair..........

it's not a great investment, over 5 years..... compared to any number of things you can buy and sell for triple or 4 or 5 or 10 times what you paid, in the retail world, for example. But do I think the GV will be worth more in 5 years than it is today? Can I get a HELL YEAH?

I don't think stock can make money now as prices are already reflected there. Take a look at the current market index else where in asia like hongkong, singapore, china. The stock prices are quite high now, buying may result in losing money. Buying stock now does not guarantee 100% winning now unless you are warrant buffet.. Best is to put bank in the bank and wait for the next crisis to come.

4 years down the road. this millgauss will flood all around the ad, u better go for the ss daytona for long term investment. at least it is a sure thing rolex not gonna max produce the ss daytona.

I have highlighted the magic words that differentiate you from many others. You "love" it. Screw the investment aspect, watches suck as investments. Buy it, wear it, enjoy it.

With todays prices and economy it would probably take at least 7 years or more to sell it for a bit more than you paid
