I am looking at a new watch, either Omega or Rolex.
Q is it better value for money to get the steel strap 8500 PO, or the rubber?
The watch costs the same, so curious if its a better deal to buy the watch with a steel strap and buy a rubber one for swapping, or the other way around?
Also how easy is it to swap them around?

The metal bracelet costs more than the GDP of Uganda. Buy it on steel and purchase the rubber later on OR work out a deal with your AD for both.

yeap. with the rubber they're charging a bunch for the clasp. start with the metal.

Agree with everyone else, getting it on bracelet and ordering a strap is much more economical than the reverse, bracelet lists out in the $900 range...otoh if you really like it on the strap and will have no desire, ever, to wear it on a bracelet, you can save a hundred or two getting it on strap...

I picked up the steel version and purchased a rubber strap from isofrane - I can't imagine the Omega rubber being better quality, although it fits around the case better. Not worth another $500 to me though. Very impressed with the quality of the Isofrane strap for the $$ and highly recommend.

I just bought a PO 8500 yesterday. I tried on the rubber strap and was not impressed; I bought the steel one and it is lovely. I may get a leather strap at some point but for now I am loving my new beauty!

I purchased mine with the bracelet and ordered the strap/buckle at the same time.
For me, the strap is alot more comfortable, much easier to adjust in the summer... sharper looking too.

I went with the rubber. The design goes with the coloured numerals. Also, makes the watch overall weight lesser and thus more comfy.

Tried it on today. Bracelet. Looked and felt great. I've tried Sub C, GMTC2, Milgauss, Panerai, and non of them looked and felt like the 8500 42m with orange numbers. Quality product, great styling, and a price that means i can take the family skiing as well with the difference in costs.... AD and I striking a deal on the watch + rubber strap/clasp.... Pretty sure decision is made unless a model I ain't seen yet crops up.... Happy Days!!

I bought mine on the bracelet and then sold the bracelet back to the store mgr. I ordered the Omega rubber and deployant. Much better feel, and adjustable. I am happier.
