Scratches on display watches?
I stopped by an Omega dealer to check out the Speedmaster Pro. I had a loupe with me from seeing a used Rolex, and checked out the Speedy. I was surprised to find six scratches--three on the bracelet, and three on the case. Is it safe to assume that this is not normal, and the watch has been handled roughly, or perhaps returned from a previous sale?
I'm sure the scratches can be polished out on the brushed finish, but should I have to polish a new watch? |

If you search thoroughly enough, you'll probably find minute scratches on brand new and sealed watches. How deep were the blemishes on these display models? From what I've seen, minor swirls are present on many display items.

I wouldn't say they were so deep that you could feel them, but they were visible, and quite pronounced.

I think a lot of damage to brand new watches happens when they are moved back and forth everyday and night into the safe. I have seen the same at my AD with brand new watches

If they are display units in show cases yes those are the norm. Thats why you ask the AD if they have another one in the vault still in factory case.

I love it when ADs have to order from Omega because they don't have it in stock (provided you get a good deal). :) You know the watches didn't get any actions in the show cases.

It's normal. They are handled every day, those scratches are bound to happen.

You can always ask for one to be ordered fresh, just don't expect to get such a good deal on it
