If you want a Simplicity, you are going to have to...

Find it on the resale market, Philippe Dufour is done with the production of Simplicity, much to my chagrin!!

older but very interesting if you haven't seen it!

The Simplicity is in a league of its own. Stunning piece. Owning a Dufour, Laurent Ferrier or a Kari Voutilainen is not likely to happen though.

I have been looking to acquire one for years, but with no success. Probably a good thing for my bank account!

Another beauty goes in the discontinued category! It's too bad as everything is mesmerizing in this watch: the size, the dial, the movement...everything!

Hi everyone,
I watched both videos.. These fellas are masters of their craft.. Whether you like their designs or not, they are a rare breed.

But I thought of one thing which made me chuckle.. How the heck do you service these puppies ?. I recall reading in the PP section that guys were waiting for 5-6 months, sometimes longer. Goodness, what's the turn around and cost on a Simplicity 5 year service?.

Really makes me look at my Rolex now in a slightly different mass produced light.

I'm thinking that Philippe Dufour sells much less watches over a year than Patek, therefore they may not have to service as many watches. Given their timepieces though and the fact that they most probably have less employees I would take a wild guess and assume it may take about the same time of perhaps a tad less.

I could always be wrong but I'm hoping they aren't making people wait for years for a service on one of their watches, it may take a longer time than Rolex or Omega but nonetheless I don't see them making you wait for an incredible amount of time.

Tks for quick reply. I can't ever afford one of these.. But just adds to my desire and admiration for a PP.. That's the most I could go for. Everything else is just mass produced.

There are quite a few brands that produce (relatively) only a few watches every year, if you want something exclusive you can find a good amount of them, however, the price isn't always customer friendly...

P.S.: My apologies for my small hijack Marc.

Just to mention that since PD hand crafts every part for simplicity the tolerances and fit are all under his control and eye. Moreover since it's not an automatic there are fewer systems on the watch that will need service/cleaning/oiling. If you pay that price for a manual wind you can be sure it will work for a long time and when it does need service as elegantly as it's built, it's not a watch with multiple complications or an intricate proprietary system to convolute the movement. A watchmaker who understands PD principals and style can service the watch. JMHO

Thanks Marc for starting the thread.

I had not seen the first video before.

Owning a PD would be for me, the ultimate grail watch. The chance of that actually happening is less than zero!

To me PD, is the person that I think about, when someone describes a master watch maker.

I wonder what his new venture will be???

Unfortunately for us mere mortals it looks like he will be going back to making one-off custom pieces for well healed clients. Good for them and for him, bad for even the well off regular consumer...

Might be the security settings in your browser, they aren't pictures, they are YOUTUBE videos.
