Does the case engraving on this one look "iffy" to anyone? It looks like someone tried to engrave over the original, or the original was laser etched (like in fakes) and someone tried to engrave it to look genuine. Any help on it?

Looks ok these case backs were interchangeable between models. The watch is infact a 1002

Engraving between the lugs appears genuine. Nothing unusual here as many were engraved much worse than this.

The "I" looks odd. I have been wrong on engravings before so I will not make a call on this.
