If you were me....

I will be buying my first Rolex very soon. Currently I have a Baume et Mercier Riviera(white dial Roman numerals)and a Tag Formula 1(black dial). Here is my Dilemna.... I have narrowed my search to 4 choices: Datejust II (white dial, Roman numerals), Sub no date black dial, Sub date w/ black dial, GMT Master II black dial.

I am 33 years old and wear a business suit 5 days per week. On the weekends I am conservative dresser with a preppy southern style. I want the rolex that I buy to be versatile enough to be a daily wearer if I want it to be. I will definitely rotate it, but feel the joy of wearing the Rolex will lead me to wearing it more often.

Which one would you choose? Or, would you recommend something different that i should check out? I feel I will end up with a few Rolex watches over the next few years, but I want this first to meet a lot expectations and blend nicely with my lifestyle.

My budget is $7500.

Thanks in advance!!

I would buy a Sub no date on the list you mentioned.

Wear what you like and want to own, there are no rules.

GMT II and your budget will be cutting it close, I think the GMT is cheaper than the sub

GMTIIc - Better dress up down SS than Sub IMHO. If you get the Sub (date), you can't go wrong, just GMTIIc not quite as common.

I don't think there is a DJ2 with Roman numerals and a white dial.

So given the options, I would go GMT as well.

You present no losers. Just try each on and then you will know for sure. With your age, the date option might not be a deal breaker as with some older memories here. (Myself included)

For your situation I would definitely suggest a Datejust II. Would work perfectly with a business suit, and the SS models also can double as a slightly less formal, almost sporty look thanks to the oyster bracelet on the weekends.

Depending on how dressy you want to make it you could opt for the smooth bezel (like pictured to the left) or go for the fluted which would dress it up a little. Since you wear suits most of the time I would suggest flutted, stainless model. But I would go with a dark face and batons.

But I'm biased (like everyone here I guess)

Sub date if you don't plan on more Rolexes, otherwise Sub ND.

No bad choice.
For me it would come down to functionality...
Do you need a date?
Would you use a timing bezel?
Would you use the additional timezones?
Would you feel more comfortable with the dressier DJ?

I'd go pre-owned but mint either SS Plat Yacht-Master or BLNR GMT II

Good luck

As someone eluded, DJII doesn't come in white roman dial. Only white stick. And I would go with that.

GMTIIC LN (black bezel) is a close 2nd.

I would definitely buy the Rolex GMT Master II.
I still wear the GMT, and have been wearing the Sub for years before I sold it.
But the truth is, that I like the GMT much more. It's not that dazzling as my green sub was. But still the GMT is a true Rolex, in every single way.
When I compare the GMT and the sub (black) I would go for the GMT because it's a bit more interesting than the Sub, for instance the 24 hour hand.

But in the end, you need to have a certain feeling by the specific watch. Then that one will probably suit you best.

Sub-C date or GMT-C has my vote also. You would really want the date since you are wearing this for business. You have enough money, so go with a new one!

Congratulations in advance, and welcome to the forum.

Sub-c date for me. I looked at all the of the above options and went with the classic. Couldn't be happier.

its hard choice..

If it was for me I would go with GMTII or Sub No-date (2012, 14060 if I could find one)

But reading the way you dress I would have to say DJII. It would look great in the office and nice with a button down shirt on the week end.

To me, from what you described of yourself & you activities, probably a Datejust would suit you well.

All are great choices and all fit your requirement so just choose the one your heart desires the most. Eventually you probably will end up with all of them anyway. Just a correction the DJII white dial only comes with index hour markers and not Romans.
