Oyster bracelet: solid vs hollow
jus' sayin: i have both the solid and hollow oyster bracelets. the hollow is just more comfortable. doesn't feel as hefty and not as sexy of a clasp, but it's more comfy for extended wear.

i have the new and the old and I prefer the solid because in my opinion it feels like a more quality piece. I know this isn't the case, but when I pick up my solid bracelet watches they just feel so good, then i pick up the non solid and it honestly feels like its almost fake. the weight is so light. Either way they both have advantages.

The solid bracelets feel substantial, but not to the point of being uncomfortable after extended wear. If your arm hurts after wearing the solid bracelet, maybe you should hit the gym some more.

I have the hollow on my Sub 14060m and the new solid bracelet and clasp on my Explorer I, and the difference is certainly substantial, but once on the wrist, they both wear about the same, comfortably.

I have a hollow bracelet on my Air King and like it. It's very comfortable.

I really enjoy the feel of my hollow, but just disappointed it doesn't have as many removable links as solid to accommodate for my small wrist size.
anyone wanna trade my hollow bracelet (+cash) for your solid? |

No doubt the newer solid constructed bracelets are heftier, feel more substantial, and more befitting of a watch of that price but can't compete with the comfort of the classic Oyster w/ hollow center links.

"Feels" stronger means heavier and doesnt equate to strength. The new bracelet has some big shoes to fill in actual field durability. I don't recall the original hollow link bracelet failing or ever needed to be stronger. Look at the bracelet when Rolex watches were truly tool watches.

Same here: hollow on my older sub and solid on the DSSD. I prefer the latter but agree they both feel just fine on the wrist.

I have both. They feel quite different, but I like them both.

As long as the main function of the bracelet is not compromised - namely keeping the watch head attached to my wrist, I much prefer lighter to heavier.
The 1171 bracelet on my Speedmaster feels extremely light and flimsy. Basically the closet thing to a wearing a bracelet made of tin foil. But in reality it's rugged and by far the most comfortable bracelet that I have. I wish all my bracelets felt this good on my wrist. |

I've had both, hollow on my 16570 and solid on my 216570. Both are comfortable but I immediately noted and appreciated the more substantial feel of the solid link. Not to try to divert this thread, but as for overall bracelet comfort, the Super Jubilee on my DJ still comes in at #1.

I've had the old bracelet w/fliplock and the new bracelet w/glidelock. Much prefer the newer bracelet.

They're both awesome. I also love that signature sound the older bracelets make...

Left to right...Rivet, Solid and Hollow.
My favorite is Hollow! Light, comfy and that little jingle you hear when you move your wrist.

I had read somewhere that the new bracelets don't stretch (or aren't as prone to) like the old ones because the solid links have less 'play' in them than the hollow links do. Anyone else hear this? I should look for that thread.

With my 6.5 wrist I would have to remove a permanent link and still pray to get a perfect fit with the old bracelet.

I have a 6 inch wrist and this is my biggest deterrent. I really want a 16710 but I'm not sure if I can get it to fit properly. Even if the bracelet fits I wonder if I would be able to center the clasp.

Hi Everyone,
Hollow for me; purely because I much prefer a lighter weight bracelet on the wrist. I like to keep a watch as light as possible, especially if I’m doing any sort of sports. And I just prefer older style things in general. Till next time… The Laird

When I bought my sub, I had never tried on a hollow link bracelet.
I first tried one on after a year of owning wearing the awesome glidelock everyday. I honestly think they can't even be compared. The solid ones feel far superior to me. I think if I owned an older watch, I would keep the bracelet in the safe and put it on a nato or rubberb. |

I'm an old fart...love the lugholes and hollow. Got the new and can see some of the benefits, but am comfortable with the old...
