So what do you think of Christies online watch shop?

Opened May 1.

https://onlineonly.christies.com/p/t...om_hp_feature1

Nice pieces, but pricy!

1803 for 15,500.. Wow. Also, you'd think that Christie's would bother spelling "calendar" properly...

I don't think they are trying to hit this (read: TRF) crowd, however someone with a lack of knowledge that wishes to place their trust in the Christies brand may find this appealing.

Did you see that red 1680 sold for 17,5 kUSD with the look of those crown guards and lugs (especially one looking very thin)? Wow!

Pricing is outrageous. $4100 for a DJ 1601. Who on earth pays that price for that watch?!

someone who clearly has more money than sense.....absolutely ridiculous...and for those who purchased from there just to say oh I got it from Christies...well...that person needs a swift kick to the coin purse.

I can say with utmost certainty that this is correct. The Christie's authentication process is pretty extensive, and someone without the know-how or desire to be as thorough as necessary (to be confident) will feel some security here. A lot of us are fine using the forums, but we're not casual watch fans. Vintage watches are huge right now, and it's attracting the less rabid fans, and they would do well to pay a premium for a "sure thing".

I believe the oyster band brings a premium compared to a jubilee band. Its almost 1 oyster band to 100 jubilee

This sums it up perfectly. Most people have no idea a rolex forum even exists. I couldn't even imagine buying a vintage watch without learning from this site. It's a scary thought. Christies site will do well because there's always gonna be people with more money then brains.

Interesting that the fellow critiquing the watches in the little videos doesn't ever mention that a lot of the cases are over-polished. Also interesting that the patina is almost the same on many of the watches. Whoever chooses them loves heavy patina.

$6,000 for a 16750 (says 1984) with some rusty-looking hands.

Hope they get it! A rising tide lifts all boats.
