Well, free Omega actually!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well half priced really I guess.

Okay let me explain.

A while ago I posted about the opportunity I have to get a free watch winder using my supermarket loyalty points.

Anyway, the LV has been picking up a few knocks and fine scratches recently and I was thinking about picking up a new watch for day to day.

I have thought about an Omega Moonwatch. These are at the jewellers where I can redeem our loyalty points and if I wait until the end of the year...I'll have enough points to pay for over half the watch. That means a BNIB Omega Speedmaster Pro for about £700.

Sounds good huh? This is where it gets tricky. I would also love a GMT 2 Pepsi (on a juby). I can get one in the UK preloved for about £2k.

With the state of the ecomonmy in the UK (I'm a Arch Tech...the construction industry is really slowing) and the fact that my wife thinks nobody really needs more than one 'luxury' watch, I don't know what to do.

Basically, I'm waiting anyway as I haven't got the funds for either at this moment but I need some direction.

Would go for the cheap Moonwatch?

Or the preloved Pepsi?

My worry is that I want the Pepsi so bad....she'd end up in a safe like the OD and probably the LV wil.

Guys...give me a reason to start saving my pennies!!!!!!

I think I would opt for the Pepsi. But then I'm sold on Rolex. Have had the moonwatch, really nice piece.

I would go for the moon watch, since you can get it at such a great price. It is a classic.

I personally like to diversify and a Speedy would be a good call IMHO.. I have a SMP GMT as well as a Sub date and like the combo..

I'm a huge Rolex fan but I also have a big soft-spot for the Moonwatch. I have had a few and I prefer to go for vintage 60s and 70s models but if you want a great second watch, a new SMP is a great idea. Here are one or two I've had.

I think I'll go with the moonwatch...I've had another idea regarding the Pepsi and will post that in a moment.

At £700 the moonwatch seems a steal. All our home heating fuel, vehicle fuel, vehicle insurance and grocery bills generate these loyalty points so by xmas, we'll have enough to get me a little present!!!!

It's gonna be a tough 8 month wait.

BTW. I had an email this morning from one of my AD's in Norwich for a watch event. Any watch they sell is now at 0% for 24 months with free watch winder!!!!!

That would make the Speedy Pro £2 a day for two years after a 20% down payment...my wife just gave me that look!!!!!!!!

I'm in the same boat - That particular loyalty scheme allowed me my first introduction to Rolex last year - A new SS GMTII 116710 - all paid in points.
I'm a couple of month's points off my next rollie visit this year (for oh)

Jim, just curious. Are these "loyalty points" created from what you buy at the supermarket (food) only or do you get points for other things. Are they linked to a credit card?

Basically the major uk supermarket gives out these points as do many of their affiliates. One English Pound = One Point! At the affiliate jeweller....One Supermarket point = four jeweller points. Each of the points are worth one english penny.
Basically to buy a £100 watch, you would need 1000 points!!!!!!

Our home fuel generates points each mopnth, as does our diesel, as does our car insurances, and all of our groceries, consumables etc.

I'm surprised no major stores in the US do this kind of deal.

It's a big target to basically get 8000 points to pay for half the watch by xmas, but I'm on track.
