The Forum
Having now been on the Forum for a few months i have to say thank you all for having me, The information that is available on this forum is informative, but i have one tiny little gripe and that's when people start to talk in Numbers. Its fine if your a tried and tested regular and when a post is made about a certain be it Rolex or any other fine watch i find myself having to run to Google to find out exactly what they are talking about. But apart from that its a very fine forum to be a member of.

The model names and nicknames can span several reference numbers and the nicknames are almost as varied as the people who use them. In learning the lingo, Google is definitely your friend.

I'm relatively new as well. All the serial number series and model number talk flew over my head at first.
Now I'm embarrassed to admit how familiar I now am with all the numbers. |

Yep, those numbers are how we communicate. That way we're clear on what we're talking about. I know zillions of them now but I'll bet I have to look up a few every week. Nothing to worry about

I started out the same way with the model numbers.
Hang around long enough and they'll become imprinted in your brain whether you want it or not! ![]() |

Read the notes and you'll figure out what model, metal, option we're referencing without having to look it up.

Think logically and you will not learn anything about Rolex.

Like others have said, you'll get used to it. This place would be a lot more confusing without numbers than with them.

That's a big negatory, locutus49.
Did you mean 114060? That would compute, over!

I am confused by the very opposite.
Some posters might ask for advice about a SubC and pages later I see they mean a SubDateC. I see threads about 'no date' Submariners - there is no other kind. Using model numbers even in conjunction with a model name would help me even if the description was incorrect: eg. Submariner 114060, Submariner 116610. This is from the Bernard Watch Co website: The 16610 model of the Submariner Date was discontinued in favor of the 116610 model Submariner Date, which is often referred to by its most notable feature as the ceramic bezel Submariner. Confused?? I am - my ceramic bezel Submariner 114060 doesn't have a date feature. ![]()

A model name along with a model number would fix these problems.
