Is Everyone Happy With Their RSC?
From 1970 to 1982, I lived in New York and had occasion to have my 5513 Sub serviced at the RSC on Fifth Avenue. The service was always excellent. In fact, I would say it was exquisite. They did top flight work — nothing more, nothing less. They were courteous, solicitous and intetested. I can even recall white-lab-coated techs coming out from the back to talk to me about my watch.
From 1989 to the present, I have had occasion to deal with the RSC on Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills. It's always the same routine: Some bored French woman, or bored French-Swiss woman, behind the counter who really couldn't care less about me or my $5,000 watch. Today, I walked in with three watches and, again, it's like I'm bothering them and they are doing me a favor by talking to me. I was frankly unwilling to allow them to take the back off of one watch and check something for me, because I didn't trust the buggers. Now, as a relatively new member of TRF, I am reading references to RSC people being unreliable, untrustworthy or unaccommodating. What did I miss? Did the bling-bling 1980s ruin Rolex for people who expect to be treated properly? Must we put up with this? Please tell me I'm mistaken about all this. P.S. I'm the first to admit that I am demanding and hard to please. However, as above, I never had a moment's concern in N.Y. RSC in the '70s. |

I personally had an excellent experience with the Beverly Hills RSC. They serviced my dad's GMT and gave the watch a complete restoration. We were very pleased when we received the GMT, the work was superb and was really a job well done.
In the future, I will send my watches a little closer to home. I just learned that there is an "independent" Rolex service center right here in San Francisco. I think when Ill service my watches there, Ill just hand it to them in person. I heard they service all vintage watches as well, no questions asked! ![]()

i sent mine to wilshire for the clasp having what appeared to be some pit's in the polished part of the clasp and the date cyclops very slightly misaligned. they told my ad that somebody had tried to polish the clasp and the cyclops was with in rolex specifications. i told them that i had removed the plastic from the watch and nobody had touched it but me and it absolutely had not been polished. it was polished at the factory with a dirty polishing wheel. i am certified by boeing to polish, work and inspect all types of aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, beryllium plus all kinds of other exotic metals we use in aerospace. it was very easy for me to tell what was wrong with it. i also told them i didn't care what rolex specs say about the acceptability of a crooked cyclops and i wanted it fixed. when it came back it was perfect in every respect but if i had given them half a chance they would have wiggled out of fixing it. they are no different than a service department at a car dealership as far as i can see. they will give you crap if you allow it.
i would suggest the same with them i do with people and there cars. make a list and take pictures before you give it to them. make it very clear what you expect and get every persons name and position that you talk to. after that all you can do is let them do their job and hope for the best. if it isn't what you expected address it accordingly. ![]()

In years past I went to RSC in New York many times; I always got the feeling that in their mind, they still owned the watch and that I had only borrowed it from them. The attitude was always sort of laughable to me.
I recently took my GMT IIc to the BH RSC for regulation (-3.5 a day) and right off the bat got "Your watch is perfect; it's only a mechanical watch". That said, the girl at the counter did take it back and the watchmaker put it on the machine, found what I had said in the first place, and they did regulate it (for free). Since then (this was done on January 18 2008) the watch has neither gained now lost anything - it's +/- 0 for almost 3 months so while the attitude was about what I expected, the work was first rate. They (BHRSC) also did a first rate job servicing my SD.

Now that is what I call Rolex Service
![]() ![]() ![]() I have not dealt directly with RSC, however I recently sent my SD to RSC for a dial replacement under warranty and it was a quick turn around time - 3 weeks to the day, and I was pleased with the end result Sean

While I have only dealt there once, the one in Toronto is great. Courteous, service done on time, nice premises.

the one in singapore is a bit stuck up, whilst i have had good service my father has had otherwise, and he hates going in there. we used to have one watchmaker who works on just rolex, but that was until he was hit by a car whilst on a bike delivering rollies to his customers.
he would literally travel from one side of singapore to the other in hail, rain or shine and make sure that you were happy with it. charged an excellent price, and always tried to salvage parts (within specs). once i scratched my acrylic crystal, and he polished it FOC for me, and the bracelet too, even though i had asked him to change it. |

I just sent my GMT to Dallas RSC for regulation. THe service lady on the phone was very courteous, gave me detailed instructions. A few days later, the very same lady called me to tell me they had received my watch, and will take care of the regulation.
So far, I have been very happy witht the experience, and pleasantly surprised by the courtesy phone call. I'll see how the watch is once I get it back.

Another thumbs up on the SF RSC. I went to the Beverly Hills RSC and they were nice to me, but it was very corporate/behind close doors facilities. I never saw or heard from the watchmaker. I had the receptionists carry off my watch and come back after the watchmaker took a look. The SF RSC on the other hand was nice and warm and the lead watchmaker comes out and talks to you about the watch. I had my watch serviced at the SF RSC after talking to them over the BH facility.
