Need expert's advice on 16750 purchase

Hi all,
I would like to seek the geek's advice on this particular GMT Master 16750 that is offer on sale in my country.

It is a ("619xxxx" Series),watch only. Service history unknown.

My question is that is the combination correct for an early 6million serial like this one?

The list price was about $5800 . And I am really at the edge to getting it if goes well.

Thank you !
G

Would prefer to see other pictures but looks like a very nice watch at a great price.

Maybe some issues with the hour plots but hard to tell from your picture.

Hello G.,

NO-Date-Dial is correct for early 16750, but it's not a nice dial.
Patina on dial seems a bit...let's call it dirty to me. 7'o clock index is darker for some reason!? (water, fixing...?????)
Corrosion on hands is normal for these years.
78360 band and white date wheel with open 6 and 9 also correct.
Case seems to be extremely strong.

I think some more pics of sides, reference and serial would be nice.
Maybe John (springer) and some other members can say more....

Shame about the dial - that grubby hour plot at 7. Hands are quite corroded too. Maybe moisture ingress some point, Good case, nice insert, but it's primarily all about the dial in vintage, for me.

Should be silver datewheel on the early 16750's. More pics of case profiles would be good.

Even with the dial issue, there are many things to like about this watch.

I would think that this watch, based on the serial number, would have the first generation matte dial, which it does not. It is the second variation of the matte 16750 dial.

I think the distinction between 1st and 2nd gen matt dial is very ambiguous. I've seen so many so called 2nd generation matt dials in early cases like this that imo they must have been produced/used at the same time. I have a 6.2m 16750 with so called 2nd gen matt dial, previous one owner watch and dial has never been replaced.

I've never heard that before regarding the matte 16750s. It might be ambiguous for you, but it is crystal clear for me and many others. I too have seen it both ways - meaning incorrect dials found on a watch - with GMT 1675s, 16750s, 1680 Submariners, Sea Dwellers, 16800 Submariners, Day Dates etc. Dials are changed all the time on watches, especially by watchmakers who have no knowledge of what is or was correct for a watch during a specific time frame decades ago. Back when many of these dials were changed, the owners were perfectly happy to have a damaged dial changed with one that was more esthetically pleasing and less costly than a new dial. No one knew the difference and most really didn't care.

One thing I have noticed with the GMT 16750 owners, most really don't care what matte dial is in their watch, as long as the serial number is within the proper range for the matte dials.

I like the watch but are those heavy gouges on the inner crystal lip? If so thats an unfixable or very expensive fix and will never be watertight like that- hence the 7 marker

I think that the dial actually looks quite nice. Sure, it's not perfect, but one slightly unclean hour marker doesn't detract too much for me. The hands are a bit more corroded than I prefer, but again not too bad at all.

The case looks quite good, with the sides and back looking like they've not been polished before. I like the faded bezel. The top lugs are a tad more buffed than I'd ideally want, but again not shabby whatsoever.

If it's running well, and the movement clean (watertight), then $5800 seems reasonable. I would try to bargain for a complete cleaning at that price though.

I really don't know what is going on with that watch. A late 1675 with crown guards shaved to look like pcg? Looks very odd. Dial looks a little peculiar but for the case alone I'd be out. Unless it is a genuine pcg case with replacement hands, dial which I don't think it is.

Interesting combination; highly over-polished 'eagle-beak' pointed crown-guard case, matte dial (should be gilt/gloss with such a case), all-red 24hr pointer... and an awesome fuchsia insert!? Step away from the burning vehicle.

that's what I meant - the case as a whole (the CGs don't actually look that bad)

This is a better idea than hunting potentially specious vintage models via Internet

The photos of the second watch is a vintage GMT 1675, early 1960s pointed-crown-guard, wearing a Mark IV, 1675 dial with later hands. It is not a 16750.
