16610 oxidation on hands

I have an L series sub which would date it about 1989. There is some oxidation on the minute hand and second hand or at least it looks stained. What could have caused this? The hour hand is clean. The dial and hands are all original and I'm not keen on replacing either since service hands would be luminova.

Not the original owner and not sure of service history. Could I be the tritium flaking?

You're just starting to form some patina on there. Embrace it!
Start looking at the vintage section. You'll see how much original parts that start to show their age are hailed.
