Your feedback on this 1680 appreciated

Came across this Red example offered by Hill Street Watches. My inexperienced eyes thought it was a very nice looking piece. Only thing I saw is the inside of the hands looked a little darker than the rest of the hands / hour markers.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281564913951

Looks to me like a 2.9m, original clean Mark IV dial, correct 9315 bracelet with 280 end links and a fat font insert but I could be wrong?

Not cheap for a piece without box & papers but was serviced by ABC Watch Works which I've read nothing but good things about on this forum. My assumption is it's a great piece.

Any feedback on Hill Street, ABC, this piece and it's price is highly appreciated.

Thank you

Looks like a decent, correct Sub. Call Hill St. and make them an offer. I'm sure they'd love to sell it to you direct and bypass all the ebay fees.

Nice, nice watch from a reputable source. Service and recent polish does add to the value. I'd do as John suggested and call them with an offer.

Always be happy to pay a bit more and buy the right watch. I've found the perfect watch never comes up at the right price (i.e they always a percentage more than you had in mind to pay). I overpaid (at the time of purchase) for all the vintage pieces in my collection because I wanted the very best I could find and don't regret doing so as they have all been a joy to own / wear.

I have 1680 which I purchased from a US dealer straight out of an ABC service and I was very impressed with their case polishing. I'd certainly buy this 1680 Red without hesitation at that price.

If you look under completed listings this watch sold for $11,xxx a bit ago and was relisted at the current prices.

I'm wondering why the deal didn't go through and if it was returned..

I see the one you are referring to - it looks extremely similar - however if you compare them side by side I believe it's a different watch.

The one that sold has lighter hands/hour markers, also it didn't have the fat font insert, and the caseback has different stampings.

With that being said, I have 2 questions I was hoping you experts can help me with:

1. The listing says "fat case recently brought back to factory specifications by ABC Watchwerks" does that mean it is not the original case, rather a new one that was grinded down to look like a 1680 case or something?

2. The back of the case looks very shiney, rather than brushed. Why would it be so worn out? Could there have been an engravement that was polished off or is this nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks again!

Personally, I'd buy from a trusted source on this forum like HQ Milton / Jacek.

It means they polished the watch and restored the chamfers to their original shape and look which could include adding the finish to the top surface and any micro welding required to make the case look as new.

Hillstreet Watches and ABC Watchwerks are of the same company. I would not be concerned with their reputation.
