Help: is it "ok" for dealer to swap dials?

I finally found a 16570 with the 3186 movement and the letter series I'm looking for, but the dial is in black instead of the white color that I want. When I asked the (reputable) dealer if they had one in white she said, "we can just swap the dials for you."

This will be my first Rolex and I'm new when it comes to buying pre-owned, but it seems kind of sacrilege to change the original dial.

I don't know how I feel about this. What do you guys think? Does it ruin its value/collectibility?

would not really matter to most as long as its authentic and period correct, however, if they are old usa papers it will not match the code numbers on them

Dial won't match the records but if you keep both dials, you can switch them out annually. Won't hurt a thing

As mentioned for any future valuation the complete set won't match, but it will certainly work. Best of both worlds is to buy the dial and have both.

not sure where they're getting the polar dial from but, sure.

as for collectibility, just state what you did with the dial. shouldn't make a difference.

or as mike suggested, get both and rotate yourself. the dial will always be worth something.

Yes. This is absolutely fine.

For some of the anal (most likely the minority) folk here, omg, swapping a dial can be blasphemy.

But you are doing this through an AD with authentic parts.

Don't sweat it. Get the watch you want, the way you want.

And then enjoy the hell out if it.

The hands will have to be swapped as well, as the white gold hands that come with the black dial watch won't match the black hour markers of the white dial.

Personally, I would hold out for a white dial watch.

Grant explained it best. Not worth changing dial and hands since these models are plentiful.

I've had both versions of that watch (but not at same time) and each was fine. But you should look for the one you really want.

For what it's worth, I just ended up buying a New Old Stock Polar 16570 from my AD. I lucked out as he had this M serial with 3186 movement.

Just buy the extra dial. Knowing that you have the other stored with the box/papers will make you want to swap it out every once in a while, and it may provide enough variety to keep you from wanting another watch. There are a lot of TRF members here that could benefit from doing the same!

Sure...it's OK. But if I could find a comparable one here or elsewhere in the color I wanted, I think I would go that route.
