Would I be a bad Dad if...

I've been looking for a watch for my 18 year olds high school graduation. Finally picked this and it arrived at my office this morning. Darn watch has grown on me as it sat on my desk all day. Someone tell me I would be a bad Dad if I kept the watch for myself and got him savings bonds.

I briefly ran into this problem, a few years back, when I got my son an old Tudor Ranger. Man, it looked great on my wrist. But to see his smile , when I gave it to him. It looks even better, on his wrist.

putting the money into a vanguard mutual fund account would be better option than either. agreeing to put $100/month into the account until he graduates college is an even better one. he will have a nice nest egg by he time he is 30 if puts a moderate amount of money into it regularly when he graduates and gets a job.

that being said, getting a watch from his dad is something he will always have long after you are gone.

He's going to love that watch. Such a good father.

Give him the watch and help him open his own investment accounts, if you like the watch so much, buy one for yourself. I am trying to decide if I want a vintage date just or a Nomos in the fall to add to the collection.

Keep the watch yourself I say ;.)

When he's eventually finished his education - he should be buying YOU a watch for all the money it'll have cost you

Give it to your son, you'll still be able to appreciate it.

X2 Vanguard Windsor II or Primecap! Cannot go wrong with those two funds!
Good luck on whatever you decide.
