Icon3 Rolex Myths Thread

Padi just inspired this. was wondering what Rolex myth you heard/believed in until you came to TRF and got educated.
I used to think Rolexes were all hand made and took a year to produce a single watch. Now I know better.
what Rolex myth did you believe until you found the truth?

A poor cyclops magnification is a sign of a fake Rolex
A Rolex is for people who do not know about wristwatches

That cleaning a watch, outside of taking a shower, wasn't necessary. Now it gets a once a week scrubbing with a baby toothbrush finished with Veraet!

Mine isn't a myth but I used to think all rolex wearers were snobs. The bad part is I waited to buy a rolex because I didn't want people to see me that way.

Along these lines...

1. That only Rolexes have a smooth second hand.
2. All Rolexes have a smooth second hand.
3. The movement of the second hand is actually smooth.

Afraid today after reading the hundreds of thousands posts on TRF over the past almost 11 years some of those quite funny myths above are becoming a reality by many.

Or that a price increase has already started on whatever continent you're not on but hasn't "yet" made its way there -or- is already in effect but they haven't "had time" to change the tags yet.

The stick dial GMT II font (error dial) on a 16710 makes is a very, very rare and desirable watch.
