I have a chance to buy this beautiful watch at a nice price. I however am new to buying Rolex watches and need expert help. Can anyone tell from these photos on whether it's real or fake? Can anyone tell me the time this was maybe made? Any info would be so grateful. If real what kind of value would it hold and what kind of money would you spend if you had a chance to get it?

I just don't know who would want a fake of anything. I mainly collect good vintage American made tools and everything is about quality to me. People are strange.

Why not, though? I am relatively new to Rolex, have bought 3 at an AD so have no worries about those, but I can't tell at a glance why the example in this thread is obviously fake.

Is there a thread or three that illustrate what to look for and typical examples of fake tells? Or could people just post one or two specifics on these newbie threads to help others learn how to spot fakes more easily?

If you own 3, I would not call that new... also, if you are actually new to Rolex most of the stuff that is mentioned will not make much sense to you anyway...

Since this section is definitively identified by the forum management as the place for discussion of real and fake Rolex identification and authenticity issues and spotting, then it would make sense to have a couple of sticky threads to post fakes spotters guides, even links to web articles on identifying Rolex fakes. Experts could actually post HOW they identify a fake as a fake, rather than just posting "obviously, duh". That rather seems to be the explicit purpose of this section, doesn't it?
