Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to buy, from a trusted seller, a 44mm AP ROO stainless/ceramic. He has a BNIB open warranty card vs 1 year old LNIB with 2 years left on warranty. Both are spotless with all box/papers etc. There's a 2k difference between the 2.

Any advise would be appreciated. If I decide to go preowned what questions should I ask?

A matter of Philosophy and wallet size.

Pre-Owned was simply too scary for me, (Horror stories are common). Purchased new from Authorized Dealer.

Ooops, just noticed AP thread, I purchased Rolex new.

I like em new without a scratch, of course if a new one was 10k more than a used one would get used...

It depends I guess.

First of course is "buy the seller".

Assuming this is good, I see no issues with the situation you describe ... LNIB, 2 years of warranty ... known and trusted seller. I'd probably save some cash.

On the other hand, 2k is not a huge difference ... but then again, I had plenty of issues with watches where I cut the plastic baggie and every single pre-owned piece I bought has been flawless.

To drive my point home ... two things ... 1) SELLER and 2) CONDITION / WARRANTY ... your scenario seems to meet both.

For only 2k I'd go new. However the Canadian dollar is bad right now so you have to weigh your pros and cons. Should be fine either way from its from a reputable seller.

Why not ask the trusted seller if you can purchase the used one with a contingency in place that if it is not acceptable to your liking you will opt for his BNIB?

id go preowned, still have 2 yr warranty and you save 2k (can buy another watch for that!)

I had the opportunity to save about $1300 on my ROO 42mm if I went used almost full warranty, but I end up springing for the BNIB.

$1300 (and of course $2000) is a lot of money but overall were looking at buying a relatively small percentage of the value of the watch to get peace of mind, and to experience the enjoyment of opening a brand new watch!!!

Can't lose either way though really and actually I have to send my BNIB into APSC because of an issue with the crown, or dried up lubricants or something. Not totally sure, but point is, if I bought the preowned watch I know there won't have been any issues.

So there are pros and cons.

$2K buys a few extra different coloured straps, with change left over to pay for the next two services.
Is unused and extra year warranty worth $2K? Only you can decide that.

I'd take the used piece and save $2k. As Serg and Chadri mentioned, unfortunately, BN could mean there's an unresolved issue that needs attending. The used is more than likely working and any issue already resolved.

Agree with Mike. I'm taking the LNIB and keeping the 2k. Two years of warranty is plenty and the moment you strap on that bnib it's the same watch as the LNIB.

^ that's usually how I work too. If it is mint, I typically will save the money. I am going to wear it and scratch it anyway, why not save the cash. Especially if the warranty is close to the same.

In your case, I'd buy new. I only own one "nice watch" and it's my 16610. I bought it used, but from an AD. Basically, if I was buying used, I'd only buy from DavidSW or an AD, but that's just MY personal preference.

Why buy new? The same seller has BOTH watches, and for all we know, it IS David. Just curious your reasoning to buy the new piece.

LNIB is always the way to go if it comes with all the goodies as the new one and it hasn't been polished.

Same predicament, I can see either way though. 2k can go a long way, if you still get the warranty then I'd save the money. Takuya has a nice 15400 that has me on the fence.
