As the "new" Daytona is only a dial and bezel change...does that mean that any current or discontinued 116520 that Rolex have will simply have the parts swapped over and sold as the "new" Daytona???

Im going to say no. But its only my guess. I think its a new model and Rolex would make every 116500 new.

Scary thought, but sounds possible. Franken Daytonas sold to unsuspecting buyers.

You'd need bezel and dial and even then no one will pay more for a Frankenstein model as it still will not be a model 116500LN as per the warranty card - if anything it'll only devalue your original ss Daytona.

I'll bet they manage inventory well enough that the number they have is zero. Certainly they ramped production down so that they would be out at the time of the announcement, while ramping C production up so that they could begin shipping at the promised time.

Plus, how is the case marked?

Most likely a no answer. The Deepsea is just a dial change for the D-Blue and the answer was no.

If your question is - will Rolex use existing 116520 cases and begin putting ceramic bezels on them to make them 116500's - then I would think yes, and why is that bad? The only new elements are the bezel, and in the case of the white, the dial.

This is what I was thinking...no matter how well they have manage the slow down on production of the old model, there is still going to be plenty of brand new 116520...

And I agree that this isn't bad...was just curious if anyone actually knew

Rolex are not that naive; when the BLRO was released, the mounting points were made different so that even if someone could get a Pepsi bezel (itself an unlikely possibility), it couldn't be mounted onto a SS model. One can assume they will do something similar for the new Daytonas.

They may start with the same case stamping, as they do with any other watch, but they are different reference numbers.

They aren't going to go to all the 16520 cases and cross out the number and re-stamp them. It's likely that any overstock cases will go to the smelting plant.
