What Do You Think About The Olympic Offerings..
I think that Omega has gone overboard on the LE and other gimmicks to sell watches.....including the latest Beijing offerings..
However, I do like the dials of some of them.. The 5 sub dials that look like the Olympic rings is interesting, and the AT tri-compac chorono face is nice... I just can't get past the silly rings hanging on the end of the second hand.. I feel the same way about the 007. It takes a classy timepiece. One that Omega is trying to climb the ladder back into the luxury watch category, and gives it a Mickey Mouse flavor..

I don't think much of the "007" on the end of the second hand, but for some reason the Olympic Rings would be OK with me, less gimicky maybe. Maybe it's becuse the Olympic Rings commerate a real event and the "007" is a fictional character. I would guess that very few people would notice either, unless they had the watch in their hands taking a close look.

As I'm boycotting the beijing olypics this year (don't ask it aint worth it) I wouldn't wear one anyway but....
Why does Omega have to go and do this dumb stuff? As Larry says it cheapens the brand completely and this coming from somebody who has never owned an Omega. Whether it is the rings or 007 on the hands or the olympic ring arrangement of the subdials, it kinda takes something away from teh craftsmanship and also sets the watch as frozen in a moment in time, a point of reference and fashion. These things are supposed to be timeless! J |

I agree. No class.
I also agree that these Olympics are going to be "interesting" and possible "historic".

I beg to differ...
there!
Each to his/her own... that's for sure...! But, though I am not a fan (and never was) of the excessive limited editions (with anything, watch-related or not!), there is something about the AT Beijing version that I find extremely appealing...: And it is not about the fact that it is an LE... In my eyes it is simply a gorgeous watch... and that's all there is to it! Personally I don't really think it "cheapens" the brand... At least the Olympic models are the offspring of a company that has had the deepest involvement in the Olympic timekeeping history ever since 1932 and is just proud of it... not really anything wrong with that... What cheapens a brand is when you go to a certain other brand's website and you see them advertise more of their cellphones instead of their watches! Oh well... just my 2c... anyway... and all the best Petros

There will always be LE's and for those who like them I say 'go for it'.
Years later the reason for the release will be there to remember and enjoy.

In this case I like it, although I will say that the 007 is lame.

I think the LE Olympic versions carry credence as has been said before due to Omegas very long association with the Olympics.....but for sure I really think they took a wrong turn with the second hand "rings", I had a Speedy date, one of the original LE's which just has the red hands, to my eye a far better execution of the idea....
As soon as I sold it (thinking foolishly it was a lesser watch being a date speedy) I regretted the sale.......it really did look quite special with its beautiful white enamelled dial....ah well....too late now Best regards David |

I think I'm with Larry on this one, especially the 007.

Petros, that AT is gorgeous but you surely must admit it would look even better without those bleeding Rings!!!!!

It distinguishes Omega from others, but they're not for me.
I suspect many people can't even remember the host country of the summer Olympics 4 years ago. What do you do with a Beijing watch in a few years when those games are long forgotten? 007 - a little cooler, maybe just a little poke at Rolex?
