new watch question

The salesperson offered me a bumper to bumper warranty for any scratches for 3 years. They called this a TRO offer I think?

He mentioned Rolex 5 year warranty was for the movement, this was for any aesthetics and free servicing came with the watch for the 3 years.

Wanted to ping you all (girls thoughts are welcome) on your thoughts for this type of insurance, it was a Tourneau dealership Rolex AD.

The Rolex warranty is for manufacturing defects. Doesn't matter if it's the movement or the bracelet..

Any Tourneau insurance/warranty coverage is between you and them.

(any "free" servicing by Tourneau would likely void your Rolex warranty)

Which watch and what was the cost for the TRO?

Since that store is a known bad egg, am curious if they're trying to make amends to better their reputation with free polish service... or finding ways to enhance their revenue stream above and beyond in a continuation of their lackluster reputation.

I'd take all the advise above and I would recommend talking to a trusted seller(s) here on TRF. If you buy new you can get the same 5 year Rolex warranty...

How much are they trying to get you for it, assuming they are just going to polish any scratches out for 3 years, you can just pay for that as needed for a few hundred or just wait until it needs serviced in 10 years or so and RSA will make it look perfect again. Sounds a bit like they are trying to pile stuff on like a car dealer at 90% profit margins would be my guess.

Warranty add ons are the biggest scams and rip offs. They offered me it on furniture, a bed set.

Yep pretty much applies across the board for all items. They wouldn't be selling it if it didn't profit.

They will polish those scratches out by taking it to a local watchmaker who they likely picked by being the lowest bidder. Is that what you would do with your watch?

Plus to properly polish the watch it must be partially disassembled and as was pointed out may void the warranty.

Sounds like the Best Buy in house warranty they always say not to buy. Can't imagine how many anal/ocd people run back to torneau every time they get a lil scuff.

Wow. Lots of hate for Tourneau here. I've window-shopped them in NYC, but they give me the impression of selling at MSRP only (not that I asked).

As to the OP's Q: no. Pass on all extended warranties, for anything (cars, appliances, watches). Not only is it a huge profit center for the retailer, but if you are buying something that is so badly made that you need to buy a warranty for it (over and above what you get from the manufacturer) then maybe you shouldn't be buying it.

At best. Or some unqualified person at the store will try and do it themselves. I would not subject my watch to that.
