Scratched Cyclops-remedies?

I was looking at the date on my GMT II yesterday evening, and there seemed to be a smudge on the cyclops. On closer inspection, it seems to be a scratch or abrasion mark, right there to the left of the date numeral......

I tried cleaning it, hoping it was a piece of dirt, but no dice.

Anyways, does anyone know if Rolex (esp Rolex Canada) will replace just a cyclops instead of the whole crystal?

Its a working watch, not a safe queen, so its meant to be used and scratches will happen, but still, right there on the windshiled.........

I have not heard of cyclops only replacements but I'm also not the "big time" expert here. I'm sure someone will chime in shortly. Good luck.

I bet a watchmaker who is authorized for Rolex parts could replace just the cyclops. They are glued on the crystal from what I understand.

Yep, you need a new crystal, which costs $150 US, so not too bad.

Live with it until its time for service. If the watch is worn everyday then you will inevitably bang it up more.

Take it to a jeweler and have the cyclops polished. If they do it lightly it shouldn't distort the magnification. Or theres a thread somewhere in here that teaches you have to take the cyclops off (you may like the new look) and then replace the cyclops at a future service.

A watchmaker should be able to polish that edge of your cyclops and make the scratch almost unnoticeable..

Of course, in my case, the scratch is pretty much dead on centre.

I'll leave it 'till service and have the crystal replaced.

Thanks y'all,

C
