Again with the incoming. Montblanc Starwalker extreme!
So one more incoming. I have a Visconti coming tomorrow but we won't talk about that until.......tomorrow! Today though is a new Montblanc Starwalker Extreme in a medium nib. This is an interesting pen. I had to use a heat gun to get the cap off......seriously, the cap was so tight from the factory I thought I was going to crack the resin by gripping it so tight to remove the cap for the first time so I busted out a heat gun to loosen it up. It came off super easy after that but what the hell Montblanc?? I would say it was about 1/4 turn past reasonable. I even resorted to the manual for instructions to remove the cap looking for inspiration. The pattern in the resin diamond etching didn't even line up. After heating the cap a little it came off like cake and has been fine since. The etching in the cap and body line up perfectly with reasonable torque even when posted. The nib even lines up to the etching. It's amazing, but the snowcap in the cap doesn't really line up to..... anything. Even my starwalker ballpoint snowcap lines up to the clip etc. Whatever. I'm over it but it is a curiousity to me. All that effort to align the rest on the pen but skip out on the snowcap. Ok so down to writing. I filled the demonstration empty cartridge included with Montblanc royal blue from a syringe. I was able to get the pen to write for about 1/2 page and then the feed ran out. I pulled the cartride and found the ink stopped up. I added a drop of water and it seems to be fine now. The nib seems "heavy" on good paper. Not scratchy at all but just "heavy" to write with. On cheap paper it's freakin fantastic but clairefontaine, heavy. Not sure what that's all about. The nib is dead smooth so it must be an ink thing. I didn't clean anything before writing with it. Just filled the empty cartridge, dipped the nib in water, and went with it. This is a smaller pen but it seems very nice. Weight is good and fits my hand ok. There's really no line variation in the nib. I would say it's a soft nail. Good for me to use at work assuming I can get the ink flow thing sorted out. I would say it's about what I expected. Montblanc did include a very large "square" box though of which I thought was out of the ordinary. The outer cover says it's a "squarish gift box". That's interesting. I would have been fine with their standard rectangle box. No difference other than the size mechanically. Here's some pics.

The 14kt nib. Kind of looks like a finger nail. Can't say that doesn't creep me out a little but what the hey.

I found out today that a cheaper Visconti threaded converter that I had around fits the Montblanc

I drove this pen all day at work today and it was great. The nib feels a little different than more traditional nibs to me. Just has more of a heavy feel but not scratchy. Like there's drag but it writes smooth. I've tried a couple inks and had the same feel. I did a light polish today with 12k paper and it's a hair bit smoother but just requires more effort than other pens. It's a different shaped nib with a weird cover over the feed so maybe that has something to do with it. I do kind of like the cover though. Didn't get ink on my finger when adjusting the tines a bit! Just a small amount on my finger nail.

Well I've got a small scratch in the ruthenium plating on the finial from posting the cap. I've learned my lesson. Never posting a cap again! I was able to fix the small dimples in the piston cap on my dark rosewood Omas from posting that pen once. Pretty sure I can't fix the dark ruthenium plating scratch on the Montblanc. So yeah, never posting again.
