Sub date v No date, and other opinions

Hey gang, I have been considering a sub no date... It seems that they are a bit less desirable than the date version? Other than people liking a date on their watches, is there any other reason to consider the date model vs no date?

Also, I have do have a sub (Hulk)... Ive been considering a Planet Ocean (new deep black)... What is the better watch? No date ceramic sub or deep black Planet Ocean? Curious to see what folks think here.

BTW, it will be a while before I actually buy any watches as I enjoy the search for a deal vs just buying a new watch (and since the deep black is not even out yet, it maybe a while before I find one).

Thoughts and opinions would be great!

Sub without date is the purest expression of a tool watch.

I prefer the cleanliness of a no-date but hate my Daytona for the lack of this feature. Do you like the cyclops? if not how about a Sea Dweller? I would personally stay with the Rolex option above that of the Omega.

1. Yes the sub no date is slightly less desirable because the average guy wanting to buy a sub prefers to have a date on his watch. Go ahead and buy the no date version if you prefer it. You can always set the date in the morning with the timing bezel if you find yourself needing it that badly.

2. Its not fair to compare the sub to the planet ocean they are at different price points. In my eyes the sub is the clear winner for too many reasons to list. I would buy a Tudor blackbay before I would buy a planet ocean also.

I actually do not care about a date one way or the other... I can not recall me ever looking at my watch to remember what date it is... I also tend to find the cyclops a pain from time to time when my watch reads 3:15... I love my Daytona as well, so I tell myself I should get a no date.

In saying that, I dont want to get a LN and regret not getting the date.

X2 I like the clean look of the no date. It does annoy me when I look for the date on my Milgauss GV and it does not have it.

Your first paragraph leads me to believe you don't need to be concerned with your second paragraph. Why would you regret it if you don't need it or want it?

This was pretty much where I was at... Then a friend mentioned that I should get the date model and I would regret it if I didnt.

Figured I would ask other Rolex guys what they thought:)

The Date on a Sub is nice but looks good w/out too. Personal preference...

1. It's a Sub. The other one is a Sub Date.

2. No, it is not "less desirable", any more than the Sea Dweller is "less desirable"; it's just another model.

3. Some folks need a crutch on their wrist because they seem obsessed to know the date, for whatever reason. It's up to you..

I write reports every day so I went with dates on most of my watches but the no date sub is just beautiful. Such a clean look to the dial. If I ever come into some money to throw away I'll grab one but I just can't justify 2 subs when there are other watches out there that I want.

For me any watch I have ever owned had a date. I use the date function ALL the time. So for me I would go with date. But like everything it really is only up to you and your preference

joe public expects to see the cyclops , , its a trade mark nearly.
i think that is why the no date lacks the mass appeal.

Prefer the Sub date myself , but see the appeal of the non date and prefer this over the Planet Ocean

The no date Sub is attractive. I think I'd wear out my wrist looking for the date.

I also prefer the look of the no date, personally dont care for the cyclops, and agree that if necessary there are a few ways to utilize the bezel to keep track of the date. But if the date happens to be important to you, then Just buy it....otherwise, buy what you think looks best.

Had the same dilemma.
But went with the Non Date.
You can still set the date by putting your bezel to the minute marker of the current date.
Should you forget the date, a quick glance and you'll be set.
The simplicity and symmetry are beautiful. Plus it's the classic.

Love the no date, it is the only sub that remains in my collection.

I have had about 6 different subs and sea dwellers... Just don't want the date.

No downside outside of the obvious lack of a date.

I own both, I bought the 16610 first because i got a killer deal on it but the 14060 was the one i always wanted. I recently purchased a near mint 14060m from a trusted seller here and it hasn't left my wrist for a moment since . For me the simplicity and balance of the 14060 is unmatched. I plan on selling the 16610 and using the funds for a 16613.

Another vote for the Sub ND. Simple, symmetrical and tough as nails. Oh, and no cyclops.

However I may be a minority here by saying that I prefer the non-ceramic (14060) version over the ceramic maxi dial.

As for the Omega, I'd definitely stick to the Rolex divers series. Omega's finish just doesn't do it for me.

I have watches with and without the date. If you have it in the budget get the date every time.
