Tudor 76100

Hello all,

After having recently acquired a 79170 big block and a 79260p I have been amazed by the quality of the vintage.
I have just been given the opportunity to buy a submarimer and I am definitely seriously contemplating it.
I love the fact that it has a lollipop hand and it is extremely close to my birth year.
Unfortunately I am not an expert on them so any advice would be appreciated.

The watch seems in good condition but I am quite certain that it has been polished in the past since it is a bit difficult for me to see the chamfers on the lugs.
I have been told that the things to look out for are the insert, over polished crown guards and the steel date disk as well.

The watch will come with a genuine period correct Tudor box.

Any comments on condition and price would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some pictures:

For reference I am attaching a picture of a NOS 76100 case

Again,

Thanks!

Very nice, I've owned own of these. All your checkpoints are spot on. I'd add one more check the lollipop hand for signs the lume is falling out it doesn't appear to be from your photos if you pull the trigger I'd recommend having the lume on the hands stabilized to keep it healthy long term

Thanks for getting back to me!
Would you say that the case has been over polished or not?
To my eyes it seems fine but as I said I am not an expert.
I know that the insert is a service replacement..

In case I pull the trigger I am thinking of sending it for laser welding in order to reintroduce those chamfers on the lugs...

What year is it? Are you sure it had chamfers when new? To me it looks like that case is actually close to unpolished, look at the lugholes! They have no sign of bowling.
The picture you posted of the "NOS" case looks polished to me because of the bowling of the lughole. Also, depending of the year of manufacture it might never have had that type of chamfers.

The chamfers were a lot less pronounced then compared to the 60s. My guess is that it came like that from the factory. Perhaps you should look for a late 60s early 70s watch if you like large chamfers? However, if you really like the watch and want chamfers on it, there is plenty of material to cut into.

Thanks for getting back to me on that. I know for a fact that the cases had chamfers!
My main concern was if there is enough material left to do so.
I mean how can someone not like something like this?

If that's the chamfer you are looking for call edvi and beau http://www.lawatchworks.com they'll get it done. It doesn't need welding welding is to fill holes or deep dents

As someone that has had a couple 76100s the case is definitely polished.

I have owned and loved my 76100. I had a 84 with a 121xxx serial. It is a great watch that I did everything with. These subs seem cheapest of the modern wave of 76100, 79090 and 79190s. Depending on the bracelet, 2700-3200usd.

Thanks for the input!
I know that the watch has been polished in the past. The previous owner sourced it from watchfinder and I know for a fact that they polish everything before they put it back for sale.
The million dollar question is if it has some life left in it to chamfer the lugs again

doesn't "lollipop" refer to the hour plots being connected to the minute markers and not the hand on the watch

To the best of my knowledge it has to do with the hours hand. The 79190 for example has the same dial plots but it is not known as a lollipop since it sports Mercedes hour hand

As someone recently checking out this market, I'd say a complete set can get closer to $4k in today's market. They're creeping upward.

The example in your photos appears to be very slightly but correctly polished (check out the clean sharp lug holes without "warping"). I believe this reference comes with only a very slight chamfer.

The photos you're referencing are either much older vintages or chamfers that were intentionally cut by a third party/watchmaker.
