Damaged New watch

I'm at Sam's and they have a new watch and two of the markers came off the dial. Is this a big deal to get repaired?

So if I bought it for a big discount I could send it for warranty? They seem to think that it isn't a warranty issue.

Or does anyone know know how bad it would be to get repaired? A couple markets fell off the dial.

I find it hard to accept a new watch with damage to the dial whilst still in the shop isn't warranty work, but for some reason they are selling it as damaged stock then the discount should reflect that.

Tell us why make and model and someone with a lot more knowledge than me will prob give you some idea of how much it would cost to fix.

If it's being sold at Sam's it won't have a Breitling warranty, so that's out. You would need to have a watchmaker try to adhere the markers back on or just order a new dial for the watch. Depending on the discount, it could be a good buy.

Which model is it?

The watch is a GMT 44 and they are asking $1850. It has plastic stickers on it and a plastic bezel protector but the dial liked blue. I tried to call the distributor but they are closed.

Breitling will not warranty it....Sam's would have to handle the warranty repair or you would need to pay to get fixed by breitling on your own

That's why I was curious what the cost may be. I've never owned one of these.

If you send it to Breitling, they'll do a full service which will be $850 and then also charge for a dial replacement. Not sure what that will be, but you're looking at a total bill over $1000.

Is brand new, a full service would absolutely not be done, just a dial replacement. A good independent may be able to fix the dial, call Rik at Time Care Inc. at 727-215-8870. Rik is the most trustworthy and capable watchmaker you'll ever talk to and will help you get an idea of whether the dial can be fixed, and, if not, what the replacement cost would be.

As Justin said, if the watch is sent to Breitling, they will charge you for a full service plus the cost of a new dial. An independent watchmaker may not do a full service, but will not have access to genuine parts if they are unable to repair the dial. Good luck!

A few observations may be in order. 1) if the markers fell off that tells me the watch may have had a shock or some type of impact load that resulted in the markers detaching. 2) if the watch functions within chronometer specs it is probably fine. If possible, put it on a timer to check this out. 3) the watch does not necessarily need a full overhaul unless it is determined that the watch is not functioning properly. Lastly, a dial replacement should be in the $200-300 range. So a little investigation may tell you how much you would be looking at money wise. Just my 2 cents.

It's not needed but they'll still require it. I had to send in my Chronomat for a minor repair under warranty and since they opened it up, they still did a full service which I was told was required.

If Breitling opens the watch, I was told by a Breitling rep that they want to do an overhaul. Something about needing to replace all the seals, etc. If you send them a watch that is under warranty and they find no problem with the watch, they will charge you for an overhaul and not cover it under the warranty. In the case you're describing there is no factory warranty, so they would indeed charge you for some level of overhaul, in addition to the dial. Personally, I would find a competent, honest watchmaker and ask if they can get a replacement dial for the watch and have him do the work.

I think I'd have to have a huuuuge discount to buy a watch under these circumstances. Your looking for a tool watch, not a problem.
