Looking for a new Omega
Hey all,
I recently offloaded my 2254.50 so I can move on to the next piece. I enjoyed owning the 2254.50 and believe it is one of the best pieces ever made by Omega but felt that I didn't have a connection with it like I thought I would. That said, if you want one, I *strongly* recommend you purchase it! Back on topic, I have been looking for a piece to take its place. I have culled my collection over the last 12 months with my remaining daily pieces being a Seamaster 2551.80(20th birthday gift and is way to small for my wrist even though I wear it often) and my Rolex GMT-Master II 116710LN. I also have a few beaters that I wear in the evenings/weekends like a Swiss Army Victorinox, and a couple G-Shocks. I am stuck between a Speedmaster Moon watch (no specific ref #; any one), a Speedmaster Numbered Edition, a Planet Ocean or Aquaterra. My strongest emotions are directed toward the Moon Watch then the Numbered Edition. The other issue I have is, my budget is on the lower end of these watches ($2,500-$3,000 CAD). I have the usual dilemma of the choice between feeding my emotions and being financially responsible. I have bought and sold many pieces on various forums and have learned patience very well. Would any of you have advice on how I can seek what I am looking for while controlling my emotions towards the cost/accepting that I may have to wait? All advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone, Nathan |

As always, this is a difficult choice to make. I LOVE the Speedmaster but can't buy one because of my passion for water sports. It's not exactly ideal because of the pushers and push in crown.
In your shoes as a main watch thay would leave me with the Planet Ocean or an Aqua Terra. The Aqua Terra is a tad more versatile given it's dressy appearance. Price wise It'll likely be between those two also. Bottom line here is it's a win-win situation, regardless. Of you'll have other watches or don't care for the water sports as much a Speedmaster could also serve you well! This post likely won't be much help but go try some on at an AD or pre-owned dealer to help make the final choice if possible. |

I think every watch enthusiast has to own a Speedy pro at some point. You can find one near that price, just be patient, and you won't regret it. Arguably one, if not the most iconic sports watch of all time.

If your 2551.80 is on the smallish side, then the Moonwatch will be a nice step up. Since you are budget minded, there are many good preowned examples in the mid-upper $2k range.
The AT150 (which I think is a very handsome watch) in 41.5mm is almost identically sized as far as the case, but for some reason it appears larger on the wrist than the Speedy. Perhaps the slightly larger dial and flatter overall layout is responsible for this. There are plenty of preowned out there, but there seems to be a real problem with counterfeits on the market. Buyer beware. I am not a fan of the 44mm PO models' thickness and the He valve, but otherwise, there are some nice looking examples to consider.

I agree with all of your points. I think I am just letting my emotions get the best of me because I have a major 'want' over 'need'. My last choice would be a PO at this point (if one came along at a very deep discount). I am mainly aiming at getting a Speedy Moon Watch and will have to wait it out.

I would say go for the Speedster Pro. It's such a classic. Perhaps not a watch for every occasion, but still quite versatile. It's as close to an icon as Omega has in their line-up, and the least likely Omega to change in appearance over the years. Also, those twisted lugs look great on a strap or bracelet, so there's fun to be had mixing-up strap combinations.

Hi!
I own several Omegas and the ones I really love are the Speedy Pro and also the Omega Seamaster 120 aka "Jacques Mayol". Look out for one of these and I assure you that you'll be happy :) Best of luck! |

One vote for Speedy Pro. I think is is versatile and one of those pieces everybody should have (even if it does not stick in the long run).

I really appreciate everyone's advice! I think I am going to wait it out and save a bit more for a speedy that I can purchase on TRF or another forum. Maybe a deal will come by! (if any of you can make me an offer, I'll gladly hear it! ;) ).
Thanks again!! |

I bought a Speedmaster pro on this forum earlier this month for $2400 USD. So it is possible if you keep your eyes open. The back of mine was opened and scratched from bracelet/strap replacements, but the front is perfect and it is only 1 year old. No box and leather.
Just to give you an idea. Edit: I also love this watch. On black leather it is way dressier than I thought, but on a NATO it dresses all the way down. |
