Chipped crystal

So I'm not sure how it happened, but my 14060M had it's crystal chipped Friday night around the 30 mark on the bezel. I think the main question everyone is going to ask is: "Does it bother you?" and the answer is "Yes" lol.

I doubt it can be polished. It's chipped along the edge of the crystal. Not a scratch on the face itself.

I've done endless reading on here and other places online. I'm still confused. Some people say send it away for $800 and have the full service done. Other people are claiming that it's $150 for a crystal replacement with pressure test. I called one dealer recommended to me by a friend on here and they were doubtful they could JUST replace the crystal and pressure test. What are all of your thoughts? The watch keeps amazing time. I'd be very happy to just replace the crystal and have it pressure tested as the rest of the watch is mint.

Pics added:

It's a lot worse in person. It's almost like a slice. I think my girlfriend's diamond pendant may have hit it. It catches the light and creates like a fiberoptic effect.

I'll run home at lunch and snap a quick one. I'm actually really blown away by how substantial (at least in my view) the chip is. I *think* it may have been my girlfriend's diamond pendant. I can't blame her for it at all. Rather, it's the only thing I can think would chip it that bad.

An independent will change the crystal for you. Keep phoning around until you get one that won't try and gouge you for an unnecessary service.

Crystal replacement isn't that much of a deal.

Yes you can just change the crystal; make sure whoever does it installed a genuine Rolex sapphire crystal, should have the laser edge symbol as the original

Personally I would wait until watch needs a full service a tiny chip like that will do no harm except to perhaps if you are OCD.My working tool a 1990s SD had several chips on edge of crystal but still did hundreds of hours underwater without any problem.Crystal was changed a few years back now at full service time, even that was well over due. But watch was pressure checked twice a year as it spent a lot of hours underwater.

I think I maybe need some wrist-time like padi suggests. Really see how much it bothers me. I am a bit OCD about things. The pics, IMO, don't do it justice but then again...it's a watch. It's meant to be worn.

It depends on when the watch was last serviced. If that's more than 4-5 years then you should get it overhauled, preferably at a RSC or an authorized service center. Rolex movements can keep very accurate time even after 10-12 years after being serviced but that's not the way you want to keep a Rolex in good health.

Edge chipping is really quite common but usually require that you run a fingernail around the edge to find it.. If you change the crystal each time you chip one of those sharp edges you can go broke..

Typically, a large chip would require a crystal change and most respectable watchmakers would want to do a service to ensure that no back-chips are in the movement waiting to do real damage.

I'm sure that you can find an independent who will only change the crystal. Rolex won't do it because they offer a warranty/guarantee and want it to be right.

Actually I could barely get it to catch with the edge of a pin. Yet it looks way worse than it is? I'll just tough it out I suppose. ::kicks rocks::

That can be hard to accept at first but in your shoes would try my best to continue wearing and enjoying this watch until the movement needs a service.

When was it last serviced? If you're close to needing a service take care of it then. If not and it really bugs you, there are probably a few independents that will take care of it for you. It's a quick and simple job.

With the addition of the picture, It doesn't look too bad to me. I'd leave it for service time, but I can understand the OCD side of you wanting the watch to be perfect - we all suffer the same thing to a greater or lesser degree when it comes to our watches.

As others have said wear it and see if the obsession with it goes away. I have two or three chips in my GMT crystal and one in my Sub. I am OCD but I don't really think about them anymore. I look at it kind of like patina.

Wow. Im amazed by this thread. I have never chipped a rolex saffire. Im either extremely lucky or too delicate on my Rollies. I thought these watches were close to impossible to damage. Maybe im elevating them beyond their capabilities. In any case, id get the crystal repaired as my OCD would drive me crazy.

This is correct. I have a Rolex with a chip in the crystal and have continued to wear it in water. No reason to change until it needs it.

I'd let that go until service. Your watch will be fine.

For you, if it's covered under warranty, I'd probably have it done. For the OP, I'd probably wait until time for service. Just my opinion.

If it was a scratch on the face, l’d I would fix now. Since it is on the edge, probably not until service. My insurance covers damaged crystals.
