Advanced Research 5250 vs 5350

I recently had the opportunity to handle these two pieces, both sealed and for sale.

The 5250G, a LE of 100 pieces, introduced the silicium escape wheel to a cal 315.

The 5350R, a LE of 300 pieces, added a silicium hairspring to the cal 324, in addition to the sicilium escape wheel from the 5250.

Interestingly they both have a magnifying glass slab added to the back side, similar to a Rolex cyclops.

I know these pieces are very important historical timepieces. But do they have a role in a Patek collection with modern watches like the 5235 incorporating all the latest silicium parts?

Which do you prefer - the 5250G or the 5350R? Or do you like the salmon dial 5450 or the perpetual calendar 5550 better?

5450 would be my choice...unique dial, platinum, and a very cool strap. Could see it as a great daily wearer.

I prefer the silver tone, but you should get whichever metal you would like the most.

The 5235 too have a metalic brushed dial too..

5235 is exceptionally accurate which benefited from the advance research. Mine certainly a keeper

5550 considered the one to own by collectors.

I recently came extremely close to buy a 5450p but bottled it thinking i was buying a 5146p for twice the money.

All models are nice. Just don't overpay.

Agree, not a huge fan of the dial layout but the salmon is appetising.

yes either the 5550 or the salmon dial 5450.
At the end to me is what to favor, the awesome salmon dial of the 5450 or the perpetual calendar complication.
I like better the date on the 5450 than the 5550.
And I think the size is a little better on the 5450 than the 5550.
So yeah esthetically I prefer 5450; but is nice to have a perpetual calendar.....I would have to try both and take a final decision

Don't settle for anything less. Simply go straight to the 5550P, I'm sure you will not regret it.

Salmon platinum or 5250 white gold for me. Due to the more limited production, I believe the WG will run you a bit more $.

+1, never could understand how you can keep a watch sealed and not wear it, they're made to be worn, I guess you must be an investor/collector to do that, I am neither, kind of kills me if I have a piece in the bank which gets no wrist time, usually prefer to sell it.

Unless you are into watches to try make a little money I dont see what the point is of keeping these gorgeous pieces sealed up in a box in a safe?? For me the real investment is having them strapped on my wrist and enjoying them...
