I haz a sad... and a practical question

Traveling in Europe with my aquanaut travel time and looked down this morning to see this:

I didn't bang it on anything I can recall. I have one general and two specific questions:
1. Any of you experienced a similar issue and was it an easy fix?
2. I would assume water resistance is probably not affected with the loss of the button. Any opinions?

Thanks in advance for feedback. I still love the watch and am totally bummed that I will have to give it up for a while to have it repaired. Hopefully since it's within the first year, warranty should give me some cover.

Sorry to see what happened to your 5164! I have not heard this to be a recurring issue and it has not happened to me. Hopefully Patek can repair this quickly and get it back on your wrist.

First I've seen this. I always felt like my pushers were pretty firm in there. Get that out to Patek quickly. You can probably visit a AD where you're traveling and they will send to Geneva fairly quickly. However, turn around is always slow.

Oh dear…!
I’d say WR is almost certainly affected, so stop wearing it and get it seen to pronto.
Not good, but a 44 ROO owner had his chrono pusher similarly jettison itself without his being immediately aware.
I’d be very surprised if Patek didn’t repair it as a warranty claim, as you’d definitely felt the force required to rip that out if it’d been securely attached – not to mention a mark on your skin and the case..

Ugh, sorry to see that. As mentioned above, I'd be hesitant to test the water resistance in that state

I haz a sad... and a practical question

Pusher buttons are screwed from inside to the watchcase usually (i assume that was the culprit the screw wasn t tight enough and unscrewed)on the pusher rod where the gaskets are intstalled so "in theory"the WR is fine though i d not bring anything near to water. It s a very quick job to repair but i m sire for PP it takes long.i feel your frustration.

Without a WR test you can't be sure, so until you have it checked I'd say it's a Non-Aquanaut for the time being.

As for the cause, it's very unlikely the threaded pusher shaft backed out on its own. The pusher itself could have been faulty and the female fitting failed. Or during assembly, the watchmaker didn't keep proper pressure in the process of engaging the pusher during assembly - instead of the threads being engaged properly during assembly, maybe only the outermost ones were inserted into the pusher body.
Just curious - was this purchased new from the PP AD? Or a pre-owned purchase?

Only seen this happen on a Chrono pusher (not Patek) so sad to read of this defect.
I can imagine how you must of felt!
Good advice to call into a Patek AD and see if the expedite the returning of it back to Geneva.
Should easily fall, as long as they don't discover any human error, under the warranty.
I say this because I once sent back a 5205 when one of the adjusters would come back out. On inspection it transpired that I must have caught the case, as what should have been a round hole was now oval!

I have to be honest....this type of thing infuriates me! I get it, manufacturing defects can happen to anything, but it seems like I'm seeing this type of thing more and more with Patek watches. About a year ago the crown came unscrewed on my 5960. No big deal....stopped into HSWA and they fixed it on the spot. But still, I expect more.

Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age? Haha!

Wow that sucks. I am traveling in Europe now too with 5164. I would probably not wear it and send it in as soon as you get back home.

Wow! I hope it ain't serious. I'm seriously considering if my next watch should be a Patek now. Many many QC cases on Patek popping up lately.

Wow your stomach must have sank seeing that.

I'm sure it's an easy fix, question is how long will you have to be without?

Good luck.

That's pretty surprising to see. I am pretty sure it's covered on warranty but the slow turnaround will be the kicker, hoping for a fast repair. Good luck.

I think Tommy Boy said it best "I can take a Sh$t and put it in a box and stamp it Guaranteed, but all you're getting is a Guaranteed piece of Sh$t."

This is of course how I feel personally about patek today.

bad customer service, pretentious company, long service delays, poorly made product... Yea, sounds like a bad dream.

Over time, I think consumers will start to catch on that patek is not the company it once was.

I have spoken to several dealers and big patek collectors that all say the same thing.. They will not buy 1 patek that has been produced under the patek seal. That is exactly when things went south and corners started being cut. No one wants to deal with the frequent problems and or poor/long service that comes along with owning a patek.

Update - got it in to an AD in Japan (not the AD I bought it from). They were very understanding and have sent already to the tokyo PP service center. Preliminary timing would be early December. Should be covered under warranty as I bought it new from an AD. We'll see.

Wow, that's unfortunate John. Good thing they'll get it fixed with a quick turnaround. Fortunately, you've got enough watches to tide you over in the meantime, haha.
