Who has ever had to return a Rolex Submariner Date under warranty claim and what was
Hello, I recently purchased a 2016 Sub Date with balance Rolex warranty.
I have also own (since new) an Omega and a Breitling. Neither my Omega nor Breitling have ever been returned for warranty issues and obviously I hope the Rolex will not need to be either. This poses the question - has anyone ever had to return their Rolex or other luxury Swiss watch for warranty repair? If so what was the problem. If the overwhelming majority have not had any issues, then why doesn't everyone save their money and just shop the grey market IE Jomashop etc Sent from my HTC_0P6B using Tapatalk |

I sent back an OP for tracking at -11secs per day. I cost me $75 in shipping to get it in COSC. If it happens again I'll live with the watch as it is. not worth the $75.

Sent my sub back for bezel alignment once i saw the misalignment i could not unsee it. Cant believe the accuracy of it though. I thought my 8500 PO was accurate bit this is on a different level. -.05 seconds a day. The RSC that fraser hart sent it back to also sent me a nice pouch.

2016 Rolex Submariner as it was -7 seconds a day was sent back. AD sent it in, came back 5 weeks later and is now pretty much spot on (+/-0 per day). AM VERY happy with the service results :)

Warranty
I've never had to return a Rolex (currently own 4) while still under warranty. They have gone to Rolex service after warranty ran out.
I have had to return Patek (own 2, sold 1) under warranty and after warranty. One, my wife's, needed a battery. Patek no longer just replaces battery. Now, a mini service is mandated at about $700. I find Patek to be beautiful, but "needy". |

Exlplorer II which mysteriously lost two hours in a few hours twice.
Something was broken, repaired and I was given the advice not to play golf with it..... otherwise just the normal wear and tear and RSC visits for maintenance. |

I had a TT Daytona with the Zenith movement years ago that was purchased new and it stopped one day and would not run. Back it went and 10 weeks later it came back and worked fine. I had a 114060 that had timing issues and it went back twice and they could not get it right. It was a flip. Of the 30 or so other Rolexes I have owned never an issue.

My 18K Zenith Daytona was also sent back to New York by the AD for erratic time keeping. Came back looking brand new.

For you, if you don't have a service center near, have your AD send it in for warranty service. They will handle the shipping and your watch will fall under their insurance during shipping. |

I'm with Peter's experience thus far in 16+ years. One new from AD and the other 20-30 bought via resales. Never had a Rolex warranty return. On knowing the process, time will tell - you may have a 1 in 1000 chance of warranty work methinks. And by time it may happen the process could be different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've sent two brand new Rolex out of six I've purchased in the past 24 months. 116610 - Dust on rehaut and low magnification cyclop, 114300 OP dust on dial. The 116610 came back flawless while the OP came back with gnarly springbar dents on lugs.

I've had all my Rolex watches regulated under warranty.
I don't consider regulation to be a problem, but since Rolex will foot the bill, I'll take advantage to keep my watches within spec.

I sent a GMT to NYC in 2015. It was losing 20 minutes every 24 hours. The watch was 6 months over the warranty period. They asked me to send them a copy of the bill of sale, which I did, and they performed a movement overhaul for free.
April 2016 (or there about) new YM sent to NYC for low mag issue. Crystal replaced under warranty. September 2016 BLRO sent to Dallas for crooked cyclops and regulation. Crystal replaced under warranty and watch now running within spec.

Personally haven't had any warranty issues. Never even had one run outside of spec. But from what I've read on TRF in my time here Rolex is pretty good about warranty claims, granted it takes a few weeks. I assume you meant warranty claim though in your post you mentioned "return". I would imagine they will only replace the watch with a new one under limited circumstances.

Warranty claim meaning service/fix - would be almost impossible to get whole new watch I would imagine given the case, bracelet etc and the other 100 or so other parts would all have to be deemed faulty etc

GMT II had a slow date change (took several hours) went to Sydney RSC under warranty. Problem fixed, as expected.

Had to send my 2 + year old Sub C back to RSC in Toronto, there a bit of grit when I was winding it. Luckily I bought at the time when they extended the 2 year warranty to 3. 4.5 weeks later got it back working like a charm. All covered under warranty, plus I got another 2 years.

Had to send my first SubC date in for timekeeping issues that developed after just a few months, but my AD had a Rolex certified watchmaker on-site and I got it back the same day. There was some sort of excess oil or dirt on a part that caused the issue. He corrected it quickly and I never had a problem with it again.
I would always try to find an AD who's willing to play ball, even if it's just a little, rather than going grey, but that's me. It's not worth the hassle for me just to save a few more bucks set the start.
