When did Rolex stop beveling the case lugs?

Any one else wish they still did?

I don't know, but the chamfered lugs were very appealing.

I wonder if the advent of robots might have had something to do with the change.

I assume you are referring to the Sub and GMT case?

It ended with the switch to the 6 digit models and the new wider lugs (2007ish)

My 2004 GMT was returned from RSC last year and the case came back freshly chamfered edges. Beautiful!

No, the modern Sub cases with sharp edged lugs make perfect sense to me.

You're right. I should have said Chamfer, I know the difference

Its like when people refer to the plastic box that the watch comes in out of Switzerland as a coffin when its really called a CASKET!

Things should be called what they are

it looks beautiful on the Black Bay. I Just don't understand the appeal of not having that edge. I'm sure people weren't asking to have them removed (not that Rolex caters anyone's wishes).

Well, in that case it's not really a casket either. It's a shipping container.

Why oh why did Rolex stop putting a chamfer on the super cases???? Seems like a design flaw to me since, not only do chamfers look great (just look at the close-up photo of the Black Bay) but they help stop the square edges from getting beat up.

They also dropped the nicer IMO radial brushing of the lugs and went with a straight up/down finish.

The finishing on the new cases looks more basic and cheaper to produce, so it's understandable as a cost cutting move. What's not understandable is that the much cheaper Tudor watches still feature those details! Very very odd.

I would say they stopped it for a sharper visual transition between brushed and polished sides.

Yes very odd and pretty crappy actually for such a premium watch manufacturer. Though I'm glad that the cost cutting measures were passed on to the end consumer!! -

I think that the transition from the brushed to polished sides on BB looks great and Tudor still managed to include a chamfer (and also slim lugs!)
