Fun addition - Steinhart Ocean One Chronograph
The homage concept is a controversial one, but for vintage, high ticket watches it makes sense to me, as I'd never try out the design with the real deal (save for winning the lottery).
This is the latest release from Steinhart, and has been a lot of fun to wear so far: Some brief specs: 42mm, ETA 2824 top grade with a DD2020 module, 100m wr and a see through case back. Here are some stock photos from the manufacturer: The biggest downside, imo, is the thickness of the watch - 18mm. This is a result of the module chronograph construction, a huge dome in the saphire crystal and a 100m wr with a see through caseback. However, it's interesting to note that, because of the dome in the crystal and the saphire caseback, the case itself isn't that thick - I would guess around 15mm. This means that, at least aesthetically, the watch feels better than other thick pieces that have 17-18mm thick cases. You can probably note that in the profile picture I included. A final observation is that I was particularly surprised (positively) with the case and bracelet construction. The bracelet feels very solid and looks great, which is seldom the case with these affordable watches. This is proving to be a fun piece for those who dig the Paul Newman vibe but unfortunately are a bit shy of the 100's of thousands required to play that game. |

Fun addition - Steinhart Ocean One Chronograph
I saw this and was definitely tempted. I have the Ocean One GMT and love it. I think he quality is very good. In fact if you like the Rolex designs on a budget, you could make an argument for a Steinhart collection.

I bought the Ocean GMT too, what a great watch that one is. Perfect companion for when an expensive watch is not advised.

Very nice. Homage is fine. I just object to fake watches that say Rolex but are not Rolex. That is fraudulent. Steinhart is doing a take on popular watch designs but calling the watch a Steinhart.

A white face version will be available shortly.
I think I still like the black better though! |

Dubois Depraz module on an Eta? That is a really nice movement!
I agree it is way too thick for what it is... Pull the winding bridge and get a flat case back. Make it a manual wind. Then replace the sapphire with plastic. I think it's a pretty cool piece, although I'm not a huge fan of the "Paul Neuman" dial... I prefer the 6263 with either a silver dial/black sub dials or black dial /silver sub dials. Do they have a version like that? (not that I need another watch) |

Any updates on this watch? i been dying to get a Paul Newman Daytona long before the hype. Should have pulled the trigger on one back before people were selling their house to get one. Anyways I really need this watch as it's close as I can get to having a PN dial in my life for now. The gervil that John Mayer has is now more expensive than ever. I love that dial and that's man reason. I know guys are going to say to buy a Daytona but that's not why I love a paul Newman daytona

I ended up selling mine, mainly because of the 18mm thickness. One thing to note on the black version is that, in person, the matte dial looks somewhat faded, more like dark charcoal.

While I don't have the Steinhart Ocean 0ne vintage Chrono, I can attest to the superb craftsmanship and quality of a Steinhart watch. I don't know about the others but my Steinhart is the Original OVM MK1 purchased in mid 2012. The reason I bought the OVM MK1 was because it bears such a striking resemblance to the Mil Sub 5517. I never expected my Steinhart to last to this day since the watch has taken a real pounding over the years. It's one of my favourite daily beaters and still performs so well with an accuracy rate of +3.0 sec/d. I guess it's due for servicing soon...

I can personally attest to the Steinhart Ocean 1"s reliability and durability. I bought mine new in June of 2007, and wore it daily for 9 & 1/2 years.
Still keeps good time, never serviced or even opened. It's since been retired, but i have no doubt it would be ready to wear with a quick hand wind. Amazing quality, fit & finish, and customer service for the money. I'm seriously tempted to get the Ocean 1 bronze soon. From what I understand, they use the same bronze alloy that Tudor uses. o1bronze_1kx1k_c2_01_1_2.1512744846.jpg |

It's a great little piece. Very fun to wear. If they managed to make it a little bit thinner, it'd be a home run.
