Unknown model Rolex

Im having trouble identifying my Rolex. It was given to me by my Grandfather in his will. He was an avid collector. The serial number is 7 digits and the first three begin with 104. Can anyone tell me the make and model and the possible value of it. Much appreciation

It would appear you have a pre-Daytona, or possibly a prototype. Someone with more knowledge than me will give you a good answer, as I don't consider myself any kind of an authority on the Daytona line. What I will say is it looks like a great piece.

Find that very strange they could not tell you the model
number.

Very easy to find out simply remove bracelet if a genuine watch will have the mod ref number between lugs at the 12 O'Clock position. The 6239 & 6241 have non screw down pushers, later 1965 6240 Oyster Cosmograph with screw down and now with the calibre 722,quite a short run the 6240 around 4 years. Then changed slightly late 1969/70 to the 6263/5 main difference now uses the Cal 727, and slightly thicker min hand. And some very rare now
had the daytona in black as well as the normal red

would it help to identify it if the serial number is 7 digits long and the first three begin with 107? I called Rolex in New york and they told me that I had to bring it to New york for them to tell me

I don't have an idea on value, but it sure is a nice timepiece. I'd reccomend taking it to the RSC in Beverly Hills, they might be able to give you some info on it and while you'e there, get it serviced and keep it for yourself; it's a beautiful watch.

Sorry to hear that. (not that your getting married) but that you don't believe you can keep it. I could never sell/trade/give away anything my grandfather left to me in a will.

To me it looks like a 6239 but they use to have Daytona written in red over the
middle subdial. The value is more than you can guess I believe.

Take it to a Rolex dealer and let them look at it and open it to make sure it´s real.
There is plenty of fake ones out the so don´t start singing yet.

Good luck.

are you near the sherman oaks area?
if so I have a friend who can look at the watch and tell you if its 100% authentic and he can give you the value on it as well.
he would even buy it if it all checks out.
let me know and I will pm you his number.
