Rolex Colored Dials VS Black or White?
So having checked the document from the AD on my SkyD purchase I noticed that the wrong dial color was indicated. I received an email from the sales person in follow up to my request that I be kept informed on the order status. He said that the order could not be placed with Rolex until May for the new Sky.
At any rate the question is as to whether or not colored dials like the blue dial become dated looking with time in comparison to either the black or white dials. Since I noticed the dial was wrong on the receipt I figure it's a good time to switch dials to potentially the black one. What do you think regarding colored dials becoming dated looking or not? What do you think of blue as an only watch color? Also does anyone know specifically about the ordering timing for the new watches as far as when Rolex takes orders and if perhaps there are different times depending on AD size or other factors? |

There's a distinction between ordering and receipt. Others have heard the receipt might be much quicker.

Much clearer now, thanks!!! What do you think of blue as an only Rolex color? I agree with the fourth line's conclusion!!

My three Rolex wtches have either a black or white face. I do own a blue face Breitling with blue leather band and like the look. I also own a blue face Omega 007 Seamaster that looks stunning in sunlight. A white face watch is very traditonal and will always be in style.

I prefer a black or white dial. Between the two I choose black simply because it's slightly more legible for my aging eyes. IMO either of these provide a more iconic Rolex look versus blue.

Black sunburst is pretty unique for a Rolex so it has my attention, plus as I have two blue sunburst Rolexes already, however I have two already because they look fantastic and make me smile more.

On this watch sticking with the blue. Still questioning if it will become outdated at some point.

I think what's important is how you feel about it, not what others consider 'outdated." Personally I like variety in dials and blue is definitely here to stay. Don't worry too much IMO.

Not too worried; just curious. Made the decision to stick with blue as originally planned. I must say there aren't many images of the black sunburst or white however.

I think blue is timeless, I could see if you were asking that about the green on the Hulk, but Rolex sunburst blue is timeless
They're all nice though, you can't really make a bad choice |

I personally I don't think the blue will date but as I have said before the blue SkD does look so different in various shots.

The blue Sky D is SO beautiful.
If i was getting a Sky D it'd be that colour. A cheaper option is the DJ41 in blue which is what I will be chasing. Blue is forever..look at the old 16613 Bluesy Subs. They are certainly still in style. |

I'd honestly have to see it first in real life to make the call. From pictures Iv'e seen I'd go black
I honestly think blue is a pretty safe color and wont feel or look dated. I get where you're coming from, but I don't think I'd worry too much about it. |

Hopefully the colour will be more like the top one but I fear not as I think that is photo shopped somehow to enhance the colour. As you can see they look like two completely different shades of blue.
PS where has all this talk of a sunburst black dial come from? Doesn't really look very sunburst to me. Is this from a spec sheet or something or has someone on here just decided it looks a bit sunbursty? |

Lee, It looks as if that blue Sun Ray on the SS SD is the same as your DJ2. (Which I'm incidentally picking one of those up from David SW on saturday....can't wait!)
Regarding fade.....I was under the impression the dials are coated with a UV protective layer during manufacture to help prevent fade long term. Will a blue dial become 'old fashioned' as time goes by? I doubt it. The blue SD is a beautiful watch, I wouldn't over think it. |

I think blue is fun to look at, but black and white are more classic imo.

So the dealer can't actually order from Rolex till May, put the wrong dial colour on your receipt, yet took a 50% non-refundable deposit?
Blue will get old, IMO. |

Blue's really nice, but if it's your only watch, I would go with Black as it's far more versatile and timeless.

I don't think blue will become dated. As an only watch, I'd probably select the black.
After I see one in the flesh, I'll decide if I will purchase one. Right now I'm leaning towards blue because I have a black sub, hulk and black TT GMT2c. The black SkyD looks awful darn good too. |

I'd like to know what dealer so I can steer clear.
