16570 to 116334?!

walked by a pawn shop today and saw a beautiful SS DJ2 116334 fluted bezel, among a few other not so interesting ones, sitting in the window, so i had to go in.. they had it priced at 6900, and said, without me asking what they could do as far as price...6300.. so i was curious to see what they would offer me for my watch right there on the spot, without the box... 3400.. so id have to throw down another 3500 basically with tax...thoughts?!

Well the 16570 sells for about $4k with box and papers. The 116334 with gold fluted is actually well priced at $6300. I would consider the purchase if you like the DJ2.

I think that's a fair deal if you like the watch more than your Ex II

The 16570 is my favorite Rolex, so I personally wouldn't do it, but you've got to go with what makes you happy.

The answer to the OP's question is Yes. Based on my own survey , the price of a brand new or preowned but unworn unsized bracelet Ref 16570 Black or Polar is a fraction more expensive than a preowned Ref 216570 Black or Polar. I dont know about situation in other countries so dont shoot the messenger ! It seems Ref 16570 is just as popular as the modern Exp II , the value of a good condition 2nd ,3rd or 4th hand isnt depreciating one bit rather it is holding its worth quite impressively.

Another interesting observation I made was that if you had purchased an Exp II Ref 16750 in selected well established ADs in Kuala Lumpur , should you decide to sell it back at a later date to the same dealer, you are guaranteed money back of 90 -95% of your initial investment. No questions asked !

Rarely if you happen to come across a preowned authenticated Polar or Black dial Ref 16570 +/- Box and papers with an unabashedly higher price tag, and you ask the Seller " What are you charging so much when I get a cheaper unit elsewhere ? " .Without batting an eyelid, the Chinese Seller discloses the fact that the serial number sounds like Double Prosperity Happiness and Long Life in Mandarin , hence the " premium price ". I guess if you're a superstitious person & believe the watch would bring you good luck and ward off evil spirits , this sort of reply makes a hell lot of sense !

A couple of my Caucasian friends from another watch forum were asking me about Vintage Patina dials on the Sub & Explorer models in Malaysia.

Apparently these watch collectors are hunting for the Tritium Hour Index ( Swiss T < 25 on the dial ) in South East Asian nations . Here I'll show you guys some examples ( Both are W serial but surprisingly tagged exactly at only USD $4224 dated 1996-Polar /1995-black ).I was told some of the best vintage coffee or cappucinno patina dials are found where the weather is hot and humid with plenty of sunlight so equatorial countries are a good place to start.....
