Ceramic Bezels
Hi Rolexers,
Hoping that someone can confirm whether or not the Ceramic Bezels (namely on a GMT Master II) have a precious metal content? For example on the Rolex site, the video states that particles of gold provide the colour for the numbers... but what about the steel model? Is it white gold or Platinum? Thanks for your help! Cheers ![]() |

I've always thought that in the TT and 18KT models, the numerals are filled in with 18KT gold. This is stated in many print ads.
Rolex is a little more unclear about the materials are on the steel model. I was always under the impression that the numbers were filled in with platinum, but Padi's got me thinking. ![]()

Rolex speak for a very very few micron coat, and its the ceramic insert thats Platinum blasted coated, the main bezel is S.steel.Platinum being a very very expensive metal sounds good and expencive but you can just imagine how much Platinum is used on the numbers.

I think we have some confusion going on here about the bezel versus the bezel insert. It is the bezel insert that is ceramic, and I think that the numbers contain precious metal in all models. But I could be wrong. I'm wrong more often than I would like.

Yes, when it comes to ceramic bezels (ceramic insert), the all gold and TT models have gold infused numerals, while SS models have platinum infused numerals. The Bezel itself on a SS model would be SS with ceramic insert with platinum infused numerals.

Hence the bezel on the TT GMT2C is 18kt yellow gold and the bezel insert is ceramic with gold blasted numerals?

Using, of course, the cathodic magnetron sputtering process.
