Wrong date on my warranty card?
Hello,
I just bought my first Rolex and am new to this forum. Thank you to all of you who posted information that helped lead me to my purchase. I bought a used submariner no date 114060. I have been trying to figure out what year the watch is from. I have read countless places that the 114060 model with ceramic bezel, maxi dial and glidelock clasp was released at Basel in 2012. For this reason, I am confused that the warranty card that came with my watch says 2010? Can anyone confirm when Rolex started making the 114060 with ceramic bezel with glidelock clasp was released? Making matters more confusing, I called Rolex and they told me they couldn't help. They directed me to the AD on the warranty card. I called the AD and they looked the watch up by serial number and found that it was sold in 2016, not 2010 as the warranty card says. Making things EVEN more confusing, the booklet that comes with the warranty card says that the Rolex comes with a 5 year warranty. Rolex didn't release the 5 year warranty until much more recently, so there is no way they would have included this pamphlet in a watch from 2010... Can anyone help? If it turns out the warranty card is wrong, how will Rolex know? Can this be fixed? Thanks so much! |

Got a pic? Maybe the 6 looks like an 0?

It's not even close to a 6. Also, when I called the store, they gave me a completely different month and date from the one listed on the card. They were able to track it by serial number.

Who did you buy it from? What's the seller's explanation?

Bought the watch CPO from Tourneau because I knew the salesperson and got a really good deal. They had the watch listed as being from 2010, and when I asked how that was possible, they just showed me the warranty card. So I'm sure thats where they got the 2010 from.

Does the serial number on the card match the one on the watch?

Yes, the serial number on the card matches the watch. Does anyone know when the ceramic 114060 no date sub was released? I've seen articles on Hodinkee mention Basel 2012, but I've seen sites such as Bob's say that they have 2010 ceramic no date subs

So how should I fix this? Will taking it to a Rolex service center fix it? Because Rolex seemed to say they just go by whatever is on the card. So how do I go about getting a new card?

I would take it back to the store and get a refund. That card is either fake or (most likely) was wrongly dated. Cards with 114060 printed on them didn't exist in 2010.

Since the name isn't filled, it wasn't purchased through the proper channels. Might have been sold through a reseller or a gray market seller that included the warranty card. In that case, the date may be written in randomly just to pretend it has a warranty or it may be a sentimental date to someone.
Either way, no point in getting it resolved if the watch is genuine. The warranty will likely be expired either way since it was only 2 years long pre-mid-2015. If it makes you feel any better, you could probably draw another circle over that last 0 in 2010 to make it look like it says 2018. Or a little kink to make it look like 2016. |

The thing is, the AD that the watch was originally purchased from isn't the same AD I got it from. I bought the watch from tourneau in New York and the watch is from Virginia I believe

If you're in NYC, can you go to the Rolex boutique on 5th Ave and have them "authenticate" the watch and issue a new card? I believe they will be able to know when the watch was originally sold, no?
Maybe they can issue you a replacement card?

I will try to take the watch the Rolex boutique in NYC but their service people didn't sound very helpful over the phone. I don't think it was purchased through the grey market since the AD on the card has record of the sale, just not on the date on the card...

He could have sold it to a grey market seller/re-seller...that's how they get their stock...from ADs.

Call the Virginia AD on the card. That guy should be able to look it up. They keep records for ones they sell to other dealers. It's probably a good store to make a purchase at in the future. There is probably not much of a local market for them.

I think that it is likely that somebody at T used the Bob's Site to date it, which is notoriously wrong, and wrote in the date to avoid any warranty.

This oddly seems to make the most sense. Tournau likely put the wrong date on the card so I would think the warranty expired and I would seek to purchase their additional warranty (3 years). Seems strange that they would go to those lengths, but its the only plausible explanation for why the date could be 6 years off... |

Does Rolex solely go by the date on the card or do they have some way of verifying on their own whether or not that date is accurate? I'm not going to do it, but in theory someone could extend their warranty by simply fudging the date. Seems to me that a brand like Rolex would have a more technical grasp on these things

A little WD-40 on a tissue will wipe that date right off the card. That's what I would do. That impossible date of 2010 would irk me.

I would call the RSC and see if they would allow you to give them the serial number and see if they have it in the system and when the card was activated. Could answer the question of what you have regarding warranty and time left. They will not issue a new card. I would want the card to be right but don't know if it is a deal breaker if I got a great deal on the watch. I would call the salesman at T. and see what he has to offer in regards to this situation. You could take the watch back, buy another just like it and leverage the situation.

Why do you think that would be a bad idea? WD-40 would remove that date and leave no tell tale signs that it was ever there. The result would be an undated card as opposed to what he has now, a card that was obviously dated long after the initial sale.
