Funny story.

Three weeks ago during my summer vacation in Europe, I walked into a Rolex retailer in Amsterdam and saw a beautiful rhodium dial 126300 with a smooth bezel and on a jubilee bracelet. I instantly loved it and wanted to get it right there and then. The shop also had the new air king and I also liked it. I was leaning towards the DJ but wanted to ask around and even came here for some feedback. Eventually I put it on hold and thought I'd buy it closer to the end of the trip.

When I decided to buy, I had already left the Netherlands and was in Paris, France. I also went to Spain for a few days and came back. I looked everywhere for the watch and couldn't find the combination that I liked, there was always something different. I must have visited 5-6 retailers and ADs, but there was always something different. Found a Rhodium on oyster, rhodium on jubilee but with WG bezel, different dials on jubilee and smooth bezel but never the combination I liked. On our last day in Paris I didn't think to check out Rolex at the airport but while we were walking to the terminal to board, I walked by Rolex and saw it in the display window. I quickly walked in and bought it. I asked the gentleman in the store to resize it and pack it in the box since I didn't want to wear it until I pass through security (after the duty free in Paris CDG). During the flight I unpacked the box all excited and very happy. Only to find out that I had stupidly bought the wrong watch. It turned out that the black was actually a black to dark gray dial and under the light on the display window it looked more gray to me. I felt like an idiot. Don't get me wrong the black was also stunning, it's just that I preferred the rhodium. Now that I've seen them both, they are quite different I have no idea how I had mistaken one for the other. Lesson learned; never buy a watch while running late for a late-night flight when your kids are with you.

I now sold the watch to a friend at a reasonable price and found a retailer locally that had one on oyster and had agreed to swap out the bracelet for a jubilee from his stock (different dials). They both share the same reference and all is okay for me but on the tag, it says 126300-Oyster which makes the other watch the other way around. I am fine but would the shop get in trouble? Maybe the customer that buys the other watch won't be happy when he finds out that his watch initially came from the factory on a different bracelet. I called the shop and offered to buy the Oyster bracelet off the other watch and they can replace it with a new jubilee as I plan on buying one anyway, someday. Does anyone know where I can source an oyster 72610 bracelet online?

I just can't get enough of the dial and I'm really loving the jubilee bracelet!

Wow, people on TRF buy $10k watches like people elsewhere buy a Snickers bar.

Glad it worked out.

Actually this wasn't an impulse buy and I had thought a lot about the watch, just didn't want to spend that much money in the beginning of the trip in case something happened. I made up my mind towards the end of the trip but couldn't find it.

I was truly just kidding, but was referring to the expensive purchase (after much deliberation) that was so hasty that you didn't notice what color the dial was. Kinda like buying a new car fast enough not the realize that it was dark blue rather than black.

Hey, it all worked out in the end! Think of how this would have gone for a non-WIS. Stuck with a watch they didn't want (as much), and probably faced with a very expensive trade-in choice or living with it forever.

Pretty watch -- enjoy it!

Anyway all is well that ends well. Congrats!!!

My wife collected her new DJ31 from our UK AD 2 weeks ago.
Like you she asked the AD to swap out the Oyster for a Jubilee which he did.
He explained Rolex are fine with swapping bracelets now but he would (and did) send off the guarantee card to Rolex so they could send out a corrected version confirming the bracelet switch. It took about a week for the amended g'tee to come through. Did your AD not do the same?

No I got it right away.

I actually gave them a call today highlighting that the watch I have says "oyster" and accordingly the other one that has my oyster on it must say "jubilee" and asked if it would cause them trouble? They said don't worry about it this is within our company policy and we will update the records accordingly but they didn't keep the warranty card. Actually, maybe this explains why they didn't give me a printed receipt, I got a manual one and they said they will give me a call in a day or two to give me the printed receipt. They didn't mention anything about informing Rolex or sending any warranty card. They are an Authorized Dealer as well.

Maybe give them a call and suggest they might need to send the card off?

My AD said it was so that there would be no issues if the watch went in, under warranty or not, and Rolex could not tie up watch and bracelet as being correct to what their records show as sold.

Not my suggestion, my AD seemed to think it was vital.

To clarify, they sent it to Rolex Switzerland or another Rolex dealer or their head office in the UK? My AD is the only AD in Kuwait and the branch manager said he will take care of it ad that he would need to update their record and I can receive the original receipt the next day. They didn't keep my warranty card nor send it anywhere and now I'm a little concerned.
