"YOUR ROLEX OYSTER" Booklet Chart

For those who have older models of the Rolex with Complete Set. There is a booklet with a title "YOUR ROLEX OYSTER"

These booklets if checked on the back page sort of has a reference number

For Example: 579.52 Eng - 200 - 9.1996

Anyone have an idea if there is such a thing as a period correct "YOUR ROLEX OYSTER" Booklet? And how can we tell for which year is correct.

Or do the ADs just put this in Random when someone purchases the watch?

I have a old 1016 from 1981, and so this may not be relevant to your research. I have checked my booklet, and on the inside back cover there is printed : Montreal Rolex SA Geneva - 579.07.

Thanks Bob, hmm anyone have some idea on how these manuals work and if its period correct? Even the model specific manuals have some kind of coding.

For example a manual for a GMT Master Year 2000 has different coding from a GMT Master from Year 1996.

Is there like a chart somewhere similar to the serial number codes?

Your example was printed in September 1996, so would be 'period correct' for a watch sold from then until a year or so later, depending on how often the AD got a new stock of booklets delivered, I guess.

Yes, I know. I have bought and sold a ton of these. The month and year are printed right there, so you don't need any other numbers to tell you the period correctness.

Ok so the question would be for example the watch is a T Series Year 1996 model, what should be the period correct manual? Is a 1995 or 1997 manual acceptable? or is it common practice for ADs to give whatever manual is still available in their store regardless of year?

A 1995 or 1996 manual would be fine for a 1996 watch; 1997 would not, as it hadn't yet been printed when the watch was sold (assuming you have correctly dated the watch*, preferably with original papers).

*T serial watch could have been sold in 97, or even 98.

Another question relating to this topic. Are all booklets supposed to match in date?

As a complete set of booklets for a 1990s model contains the following

YOUR ROLEX OYSTER BOOKLET
MODEL BOOKLET (GMT MASTER / SUBMARINER ETC)
ROLEX TRANSLATION BOOKLET


When a watch is bought brand new from an AD all those years ago do the years of all these booklets have to match?

Ex. All is printed in 1996? Or some are 1995 while some are 1996.
