Rolex oyster perpetual or panerai PM048?
Guys,
I need your hellp. I'm looking for a 2nd watch which is kinda understated and can be worn daily without a lot of people noticing it :- My budget is in the ~$6k. I also got my first watch sub no date and still loving it. Just wanna know if which one should you pick from the 2? oyster perpetual or PM048? Also, which one will have a higher resale value later on? Thanks for the inputs. -j |

Is there such a thing as an understated Panerai?

The 48, though 40mm, still is pretty chunky and has the crown guard. Consider a 337, 338 or 512 if you want a "small" Panerai.

Panerai is easy to notice with it's big numbers. But it is beautiful watch i think. I personally like the white dial Luminor :) And i like their manual winding movements.

Since you already have a Sub ND why not give the Panerai a look. I would consider a 000 or a 005. The 40 mm Panerai's, while they look good are not on the radar of a lot of people that are into the brand. This equates to a lower resale value if traded/sold/flipped. The 000 or the 005, while 44 mm, wear smaller and there is a ready availability of straps and buckles. Buy right or you will lose a lot when you flip. Good luck.

I'd go with the Panerai, if for no other reason than to add some variety

This. I'd go with a 000 or 005 over the OP all day every day. Whilst I'm a Panerai fanboy, there are some Rolex I'd pick over a Panerai but I'd take almost any PAM over an OP. Nothing wrong with OPs, just not my bag.

You should know that accuracy of Panerai cannot be compared with Rolex accuracy. My PAM00510 with in-house movement had accuracy +5/-7 seconds and all my Rolex watches have +2/-2.

I would definitely go with the PAM but not the 48.

I have a PAM88. I think for the money there`s better watches you can purchase. Definitely buy it used if you do pull the trigger. Nothing beats a PAM rubber strap tho :D
