Speedmaster arctic explorer

I was checking out the Omega site and noticed a new speedmaster had appeared. I quite like the look of the white face and wondered whether anyone had seen this up close or tried it on? Do you know how much they are asking for this little beauty?

What you have found is the "Alaska Project", a very special limited edition
Omega has produced just a short while ago.
Omega's website entry of it is here: Reference 311.32.42.30.04.001

It is a re-edition of a very interesting and historic watch/project.
If you like, you can read about it in a couple of threads I've been
"raving" about it...

If you have a chance to see one in person (in your AD or at an Omega

Very nice watch!
I just don't feel it with the Omega bracelets though...
They never seem to fit me right nor have I ever been
crazy about their look.

I think that would look stellar on a NATO but I just
cant see paying the premium for a bracelet I wont use.

Ill have to keep my eyes open for something Omega sold
as a head only or something...

They didn't require a Tachymeter in the Arctic. There was none on the original.

The Omega Alaska Project Speedmaster isn't really made to be used in Alaska, but rather in the sub freezing temperatures of outer space.

Here is an excerpt from the Omega Basel 2008 release.

"Omega’s release of the new Speedmaster Moonwatch “Alaska Project” honors the brand’s abilities to produce watches that can withstand the extreme conditions of space. With a limited edition production of only 1,970 pieces, the new Speedmaster Moonwatch “Alaska Project” is temperature resistant (in space) between -148 degrees Celsius and +260 degrees Celsius, encompassing more than 400 degrees"

I was offered one just this past week, and I may regret having turned it down...

MSRP is ~$5,800.

My local AD to my surprise had one in before Christmas. I think it was £2995 and even for readies the most I could get was 10%

I posted in this forum on 22 December 2008 that there was 1 available and if anyone was interested to PM me.

No PM's and I have not been to AD's since so I have no idea if its still there. it had caused a lot of interest and it is a heck of a good looking watch.

Yep, right on the money.
Omega dials are generally right up my alley but those bracelets do nothing for me.
Shame, as i fancy one to go with the Rolexes.

Thats exactly how i feel about their watches! I think the bracelet on the Speedmaster mentioned above is acceptable, but i think the bracelets really let down the watches. NATO's are good, but im not really a big lover of watches on straps either!

I think the model is called the ''Alaska Project Moon''. It's designed to withstand extreme temperatures. It's a limited piece (1970 pieces), and has some cool engravings/wording on the back.

I have seen one, it comes in a huge display box. I think the box includes a few different straps/bracelets as extras. I really like the look of the watch, I am a fan of the white dial.

Local AD is asking for $US5600, but I can get one for $5500 online no tax.

Now I'm thinking of getting a Rolex TT GMT C or a panerai 104 or the Omega Alaska Project.

My heart still on the Rolex TT GMT C. The Omega is a beauty, you can ask your AD to order one ... not that hard to get.

It funny that, I still can't bring myself to pay 5k for a omega or pan but I don't mind paying 12.5 k premium for a ss daytona.

They seem to be good prices,..... but i have been offered one in Canada for $5800, tax inc, I think with the current exchange rate,..... you may be able to aply more pressure and get some more discount guys.
